they don't have the leadership on the team they usually have. they have as much talent as they ever do, or close to it, but they lost a lot of leadership from last year. i've always said that leadership is something you can't manufacture, can't make it happen as a coach. i have also noted that nick does as good a job or better than any coach at creating the atmosphere for leadership to arise out of.

right now they don't have it - it might show up later or maybe not at all this year.

Something is not right about that OL. I think if Young was more of a runner, their problems would not be noticed. Their D is not up to their usual standards.

First time I agree with Irons. And they could still win it all. That's the part that gets me.

All this stuff gets overblown after a loss. Bama lost to a pretty talented team with a good coach in a wild atmosphere after losing 8 players currently starting in the NFL. These things happen

To OPs point, every report and interview indicates that Dickerson, Mac, Devonta, Waddle, Najee, etc. were alphas on the team. The best players were also the hardest working. So not only did Bama lose talent, they lost alot of the personalities that made Bama elite last year

Bama's got a fair number of younger players and they've struggled in hostile road conference environments. In prior years, the skill player talent has carried them through those situations, but the skill player talent differential just isn't as great between Bama and other conference teams this season.

Luckily, they won't have to leave the state again after their next contest against Mississippi State. That last game on the road against Auburn might spell trouble, though.

It happens some years. Despite popular belief Bama is not a machine that plugs another 22 5 stars in and rolls. It seems that way sometimes but they’re still 18-22 year old kids. Some teams gel and have intangibles like leadership and focus. Some years not so much. Bama lost on a last second field goal on the road in the SEC West in a hostile environment in front of 100,000 fans. Not the first time, won’t be the last. Next.

When you have a team that lost a lot of senior leadership and is playing some very talented but young guys finding strong leadership can be an issue despite all the talent. Sometimes losing a game like Bama did can be a blessing in disguise because it can be the one thing that drives some of the young guys to take a true leadership role and get a little more vocal.

Alabama could easily win out until the SEC Championship and then give ugag all they can handle. The winner of that game will win the playoff so that could certainly be Alabama.

Plus no cheap shot Dickerson who also illegally snapped every play but was never called by officials

A&M should have come into that game with 3 loses. A QB that has done nothing prior to Saturday, so claiming they are talented and well coached is a bit of a stretch.

Defensive coaching ?

Anyone see the Dback on the pass interference at the goal ? End of the game. Had he looked at the pass he could have turned and intercepted the ball with out touching the a$m player. He was beat. Might as well find the ball.
Running steps will help you remember what you were taught at practice.

BOB & Golding can't hide behind Mac & SARK, like last year's team did.

The loss of C. Allen in the Miami game was huge!!@ We knew it would be. Then his backup D. Sanders went down and missed the a&m game. M. Moore was tossed from the a&m game almost immediately. Add to that, McClellan's season ending injury. T. Sanders inability to recover from the auto mishap of last season. J. Battle and C. Harris battling through injuries. Then yes, we are lacking leadership. Basically, B. Young is a freshman and will continue to grow. Baptism by fire. He'll not be the same qb at season's end as he is now. I said before the season started, "if you're going to get Bama you'd better get them early because by late season they're going to be hard to beat!" Example: fla had a chance because of the atmosphere at their home field. And so, a&m.

Bama came out with w at fla and almost pulled out the w at a&m.

Players, young as they are have to step up and ride for the count to 8. Metaphorically speaking.

Look, we had a chance to go undefeated. But, the odds were longer, much longer than previous team's chances. Now, we have an opportunity to see what kind of character makeup we have as a team.

We have to get healthy and not lose any more players to injuries. We have to commit par excellence` or it will be a good season but not a great one.

Either way, I Roll with Bama!

The defense was supposed to be world beaters this year and it's yet again the worst unit on the field. It should now be obvious, they are poorly coached.

The offense was expected to have some of these type of games given how much it replaced. New QB, new OC, new OL, new receivers. The defense was supposed to be the backup when that happened, but it's nowhere to be found.

This is a perception even among fans that is not accurate.
They have 0 former 5 star contributors on the defensive side of the ball. That according to 24/7 sports. The most recent 5 stars on defense were Pat Surtain in the 2018 class who went pro, Eyabi Anomi who transferred and Antonio Alfonse from the 2019 class who transferred. The entire roster is full of mid level to low level 4 star talent with a few high 4 star and 3 star talent sprinkled in.

It's pretty much the same on offense although they seem to have more talent on the offensive side of the ball and it shows.

I agree with you. Do you think Alabama would have offered a guy like Alfonse back when they were reeling in true impact players? Not the ones the recruiting sites suddenly "reevaluate" after getting the Bama offer. Alfonse surely was a head case before he arrived on campus in Tuscaloosa. Surely the coaches knew about it.
I think Bama has had some recruiting gaffes on the defensive side of the ball.
I know this sounds ridiculous to guys paying for subscriptions to recruiting sites. Think about why you're paying those fees as Bama fans? Do want to pay money and read about how shitty Bama is recruiting on those sites?
According to the site, Bama will reel in all the great talent each and every year! So some random two star gets elevated to 4 star after the Bama offer.
Meanwhile, if we saw the Bama recruiting board, we will see how they had to drop down to Tier 2 or 3 and offer the fallback "project" player. Oh but according to the site, he got he's now a 4 star!! Yes!
