My evaluation of Trask

I think this guy is an NFL QB. Tough, smart, accurate, quick release, and good enough arm strength. I was very impressed.
LSU-Florida 2019 had a very similar atmosphere as LSU-Bama 2018. In both cases the visiting QB had to deal with a hostile night crowd with great athletes on defense. And Trask put up a very similar stat line as did Tua:
Trask 23/39 310 yards 3/1 TD/Int
Tua 25/42 295 yards 2/1 TD/Int
Trask earned a lot of respect on Saturday night.

How Franks was starting ahead of Trask is fricking mind boggling

WTF was Mullen thinking? Maybe he saw something different at practice but damn

Trask has been very impressive for a guy who literally hadn't started since.....middle school? Mullen can coach and prepare QBs.
LSU's pass defense is significantly worse this year than last, per every regular and advanced metric, though.

Mullen is extremely loyal to upper the upper classman

Been kind of beaten to death but here goes 1 more time:
When Franks was struggling last year, Trask was going to start the South Carolina game (Franks benched), then he got hurt and was out rest of season. So lost his chance then.
Franks came back and put up strong performances overall to end the year last year. This meant coming into this year Franks was a 2-year returning starter, so I would get why Mullen might go with him, not to mention Franks is at least a little mobile and can run and Mullen loves that. Trask is really a statue, dude might not even run a 5.0 40. This kind of stuff really hurts Trask in terms of how Mullen uses his QBs.
Now all that being said Trask is an infinitely better passer than franks. He wasn't close to perfect against us but he still made more impressive throws that game than I've ever seen Franks do. He was fitting balls into VERY tight windows like on Stingley, timing routes, slant routes, etc...

I came away impressed with Trask as well. But if our defense makes Garrett Shrader look like an all-American this weekend I may change my opinion.

That was my takeaway - I didn't know he had the pure ability to make some of those throws. And a lot of them were feel throws, which is even more impressive for a guy who had no real live game action under his belt

I think LSU's defense is better than you think.
I hope I never have to see Franks start for Florida again. Trask is a tough, humble guy. I am glad we have him starting on Satudays.

Trask is a very serviceable and solid QB. Real solid. Don't know how he was behind Franks.

Our pass defense leaves a lot to be desired, BUT, he was also throwing against 2 of the top 5 Corners in the SEC and Grant Delpit. Specifically that one throw against Delpit that was in basically the only spot one could put it. He deserves more credit for that. It’s about as good of an average pass defense you could play.

He was great.
He’s got a few things he needs to work on like:
1) footwork when pressured. He seems to turn his left foot when feeling pressured which led to a few high throws on Saturday which can be corrected with more practice and game time
2) deep ball accuracy - probably his most glaring weakness aside from pocket presence and mental clock. His arm is actually not as bad as a lot of people says. Definitely not as strong as Franks but more than adequate. Needs to be more accurate though on shots down the field.
3) pocket presence - by far his best game in this area against LSU. It shows his progression and that’s something that only gets better with more reps.
I have no doubt if he stays healthy he will carve himself out a decent NFL career as a backup and potentially a starter if he comes back and lights it up next year.

They won’t. Shrader is not the pure passer Trask is.

He was very impressive. Killed me watching him run for a couple of first downs. Mullen knows how to coach QBs.
He is better than Franks, I don't know why Franks got the starting job ahead of him.

I was most impressed with Trask at how he was confidently standing tall in the pocket against LSU. Not sure how LSU's pass rush is, but he looked cool, and confident in there at night in Death Valley. Good showing.

Even more so after he seemed to have no pocket awareness the week before against Auburn.
He looked like a different guy in terms of internal clock.

I think it is too. Just have to give trask credit for making the throws he did in tight windows. he was looking like joe montana out there last saturday with putting the ball on the money.

I agree with all of this. And it is even more impressive, given the hostile environment he faced all night. Honestly, I worried the qb rotation might have impacted his rhythm and he still did a great job.

Yep - I thought Mullen did about as good a job of rotating 2 different QBs as I've ever seen in a game (up until the hold my beer moment when he send Jones out to start a drive).
They clearly had a very specific plan where Jones would come in once they reached that inbetween area of the field between the LSU 30 and 10 where the field shrunk.
