Serious question, do the Dak years buy Mullens a few off years? He's been a great coach at a place where success has been fleeting.

I think he's really a good coach, but a subpar recruiter, and we all know it's the Jimmys and Joes more than the X and O's.

There were whispers that he was trying to find his way out of Starkville last year. Is there any bad blood from that period?

Dak Prescott is allowed a few down years.

But for real, I think Dan is a pretty good coach, but we won't know if he's great until he leaves State.

Depends on if he finds the fire again. It's something he has lost this year.

I think most fans are ok with him having one down year. After that he will probably be gone.

Agreed on the coaching/recruiting part.

Yeah he made a lot of fans angry due to his constant job searches.

Actually this board was screaming it from the mountain tops.

I'm pretty sure Mullen is safe this year.

he's 56-37 at State. I can't see anything happening to him unless he goes about 3 years in a row under .500.

Any talk of firing Mullen is ridiculous.

State was arguably the worst team in the league during the stretch of 01-08 (one winning season).

Mullen has three seasons of 9 or more wins at a time where the SEC West is more competitive than ever. He deserves a down year or two.

Mullen is a good coach ... he's going to make MSU more consistent than they have ever been in their history.

If has another run with a couple of ten win seasons in the near future, and he might, then MSU is going to have to decide if they are willing to pay up or let him go to another program.

MSU would do well to keep him and let him retire there. He'll average 8 wins a season or better and he'll do right by the program and help take them to a better place.

He's the next LSU HC. Book it Dano.

Yeah I am fine with MSU sinking back into a perineal dumpster fire ala South Carolina.

Fire him.

Loyalty should only run one way right?

A few no, but a couple yes as long as the program is at least on a minor upward trend.

He's a great offensive coach, but needs to learn to trust his staff, especially on defense. I wouldn't say he's subpar, but I think he handcuffs MSU with his staff hires and offseason flirtation with other jobs. With the new additions on the defensive side, we've already expanded our recruiting footprint and increased our offer levels by about 50. If he will move some of his buddies on the offensive side of the ball to off the field positions and hire a few more recruiters, it would make a ton of state fans happy.

Of course it is, but the deal is that it is nothing new. Whether legit or not, his name has come up the last 3 off seasons and it has killed our recruiting which we are seeing the effects of now. He is hitting the Juco's hard trying to recover, which scares the shite out of me. We'll see what happens....

We could do a lot worse that is for sure. I am one that thinks Mullen is a very good coach, but he is stuck at State. Mullen will be at State as long as Mullen wants to be there, period!

Are you asking me if the most successful coach in school history can have a bad season in a rebuilding year at Mississippi State and still keep his job?

I'd have to say.. yeah.

If it's not a "Top SEC' program, there aren't many other places that will pay what he makes at MSU. He currently is ranked 16th in terms of salary ahead of coaches at schools like UF, Arky, TCU, Mizzou, Mich State, Okie State, Tennessee, UCLA, Clemson, Oregon....etc

Why don't you tell me which part you disagree with? It's Miss State for God sake! Will always be Miss State. Other than having a very good year to good year every 10 years or so it is what it is. Sorry to bust your bubble!

I've seen this show before. Mullen will not have success without his star dual threat qb. Then he'll fake heart problems and "retire" only to resurface at a big 10 school

What he should be doing first is hire an offensive coordinator at let that man call the plays with his input. His play calling is atrocious and has cost us numerous games. He has no real feel for the trend of the game or adjustments for what the defense is or isn't giving him.

You may want to check recent history - it might prevent you from looking like a little dick rantard in the future.

Were I referring strictly to his salary that might apply. But as it were I was referring to total staff salaries, analysts, facilities, etc.

Most of the programs you listed have bigger budgets and better facilities.

A lot of head coaches these days are willing to take less pay in order to hire better staffs as well.
