I'm going to get chastised by my Vol brethren but IMO Andy Kelley was the most overrated player we've had in the last 30 years. In Kelley's career he through for more INT's than he did TD's 38-36. It's amazing that he was that inconsistent throwing when he had Alvin Harper and Carl Pickens to throw too. I think most Tennessee fans consider Kelley as one of the better QB's to come through our school but when you look at his stats he was just an average QB on some pretty good teams.

He left school owning pretty much every UT passing record

I'm not saying he was bad but he threw the ball to the other team more than his own receivers.

Jeremy Johnson

No knock on Jeremy; he's a good young man.

If you're talking about overhyped (Recruited) player who never produced/played, probably Chris Davenport.
If you're talking an overhyped player who actually played but was just massively overhyped, probably Anthony Johnson.
If you're talking about an overhyped player who the coaches possibly ruined their potential on, probably Russell Shepard.
If you're talking an overhyped player who was in fact uber talented but threw it all away - that one is too easy, Ryan Perilloux.

Ryan Perrilloux. The offense hasn't recovered to this day.
ETA honorable mention: Russell Shepard. Not the kid's fault, glad he's doing well now.

Other LSU candidates:
Zach Mettenberger. Was never all that great, though we fans should get a pass for thinking so considering what we're used to seeing . He may have had the GOAT college WR tandem.
Alley Broussard. Good back, sure, but some fans act like he would have been the next Ricky Williams. He reminds me more of your typical "good LSU running back" that we always have. That's not a knock on the guy.

Vernon Hargreaves: Technically precise but lacked the big-play factor you need to dominate in college (minus his goal line pick against UT)
Derrick Harvey: Tweener who benefited from being surrounded by athletic freaks and NFL talent
Chris Rainey: Marketed as a multi-tool offensive threat but was really only good at getting caught from behind, blocking kicks on special teams, and being a thug piece of shite to women.

24-5-2 as starter. Top 5 all-time at UT for career passing yards.
