We were going to make the cutoff 1940 to have a clean 80 seasons of data. But Aggy is our second favorite, so our bias got the best of us.

Legend has it, General Neyland was the first person to coin the phrase “VOLS, bitch”

The same fine men on those VOLS teams went on and killed Japs and Krauts

...and Yale has the most national championships since the start of college football, but no one cares

I thought Princeton had the most?

Lauricella looks like he got done with a reverse gangbang about 15 minutes before this was taken.

The Vols also hold the NCAA FBS record for the most consecutive quarters opponents held scoreless, 71. That streak lasted from the second quarter of the 14-6 win over LSU on Oct. 29, 1938 until the second quarter of the 27-12 win over Alabama on Oct. 19, 1940.
Also, kinda shows how ridiculous some of those seasons were:
1961 Alabama - 3 games where the opposing team scored 6 or 7 points
1962 LSU - 2 games where the opposing team scored 6 or 7 points
It'd be interesting to see the last season where a team had more shutouts than non-shutouts, and when they held teams to 7 points or less more often than not (which MIGHT be 2011 Alabama? 7 games out of 12 with 7 points or less given up -and 2011 LSU, where they technically have 7 out of 13 if you reference points given up by defense/special teams - the safety by WKU the only thing otherwise holding it up). 3 points or less would be much further back I imagine.

I saw this and thought this thread was about Bama.

It's actually more impressive than what you are stating because they played less games back then.
Tennessee in 1939 shut out every single opponent they played in the regular season(10-0).
BUT
In a funny twist of faith, they would then be invited to the Rose Bowl, where they were the ones shut out and they lost 14-0 to USC.
Shut out every single opponent in the regular season though. It'll never happen again.

Seems that soccer style football scores went out of style 60 years ago.

Auburn and Mississippi State tried to bring it back in '08, to no avail.

Nope. Princeton has 15 recognized by the NCAA. Yale has 18.

Lol. I’m not mad. It’s just kind of pointless to list pre-WWII stats since 99% of the people on here weren’t even alive when the games took place, but to each his own. Some of it is interesting.
