From the Austin American-Statesman

And there was pushback a few minutes later when the Statesman’s Brian Davis asked about any specific concerns about the secondary, particularly with all the completions over the middle. Herman was having none of that.

“Again, those are two separate entities,” Herman said. “We’re all just assuming that it was the secondary’s fault that people were open, and that’s not a fair assumption until you know what each coverage call was an whose responsibility that is.”

Soon after that, Anwar Richardson of Orangebloods wanted to know about that critical Justin Jefferson touchdown on third-and-17 in the final minutes. “Coach, I know that hindsight is always 20/20, and it’s easy to be—”

Herman: “REALLY??”

Richardson: “It’s easy to be a Monday morning quarterback, right? So the two questions I do have —”
Herman: “Don’t say that to your subscribers, that what they’re doing is easy.”

Richardson then asked the question: “If you had to do it all over again, would you still dial up the blitz on third-and-17?”

Herman: “Honestly … we don’t live in a world of what-ifs or shoulda-woulda-coulda’s. We made the call. It felt like the right call at the time and the quarterback was jumping, falling on one of his offensive linemen and threw it right in the receiver’s hands.”

It sounded to me like Herman was saying they dialed up a blitz which impacted the qb and he still made the throw, not that he called it a fluke.

I don’t see a problem in his response so much as how defensive he is that the media are asking him tough questions about decisions he made in a big game.

Tough shite, Tom, you get paid the big bucks to make tough calls and either profit accordingly or catch shite for them. Deal with it.

I don't think it was bad call at all. Burrows just made one hell of a play. Kid played an amazing game.

Sounds like a guy who knows that this was "Texas' year" and he's already on the hot seat.

He never said it was a fluke. He called a blitz- forced Burrow from pocket, Burrow throws a leaning jump pass 15 yards downfield right on the $$. That was a player making a play. Not a backfiring blitz. It happens. I think we'd all take our chances under the same circumstances.

this. The call was fine; they made Burrow move and throw on the run under heavy pressure. Not many QBs are completing that pass.

Have posted once, will once again.

His poor game management at the beginning of the game, 2 goal line failures, and the end of the 1st half defeated his squad.

Yeah...sometimes you just have to give the opposing QB his due. Burrow made a lights out play. It wasn't about it being the right or wrong defensive call for UT; it was about Burrow making a god damn man's throw.

Tom Herman too young to be spouting the CMR Arena speech.. took Richt 11-12 years to tell the people around the program that were not in the arena.

That was utterly ridiculous to blitz on 3rd and 17 right there. I said it at the time.

The receivers were going to be wide open. It wasn't like Burrow had to thread the needle which he would have had to do if you rushed four.

All he had to do was get enough time or make a little room (which he did) and throw it. There wasn't going to be a texas d back even close. And there wasn't

It was a stupid play call. Make them punt and you win the game. you don't need to gamble like its life or death to get a sack or turnover there

It was easy to see he knew he was in over his head. Not taking the FG and the points from the goal line and then the little gimmick WR pass. He got rustled biggly.

It'll be good for him to stew in his own shite for a while.

That’s literally what Herman said. It was an incredibly athletic throw and he hit the WR right on the freaking money.

He dialed up the call he thought was best, to bring pressure. Burrow made an incredible throw under duress. You throw your hands up and tip your hat to the guy.

Today I learned that Tom Herman doesn't understand what Monday morning quarterbacking means.
