With March Madness brackets being one of the more popular ways to bet on sports, how much money has to be in the pot for you to forget your rivalry and pick your rival to actually win a game, assuming you think they actually can?

I have no problem picking them to win if I think they're going to.

If I think they will win, why wouldn't I pick them? Me writing down another team on a piece of paper isn't gonna "get them" somehow. Money is involved, I would hope sane people would pick based on who they think will win the games regardless of rivalries.

the rivalry runs deep in SC. I personally have the toothless taters in the Sweet 16. However, I've also had a few fellow SC alums turn in their brackets mumbling "ill never pick clemson to win anything." I thought it was as dumb as everyone else ITT.

What, are we supposed to hate money?

I have a similar problem but in reverse for my own team. When LSU makes the tourney I can't pick them not to win. I just can't do it in my heart. My dad always tells me to do one bracket with them winning and then another "real bracket". Can't do it.

None.
Bama could beat anybody on a given day.
Or lose.
So talented.

I’ll begrudgingly pick Clemson round 1. Head says beat AU in 2nd round but I’ll choose the Aubbies because frick clemson.
Rivalry bias has cost me a lot of wins in the pickem these last couple of years though

New Mexico State is a good team and will be a tough out for Clemson in the first round.

Betting on your rival is the best
If you win $$, it softens the blow. If your rival loses, you don't care about the $$.

Nothing is worse than having a rival bust your bracket so I will pick them more times than not.

I mean...
We win. fricking awesome. Totally worth it.
We lose. I having winnings to drown my sorrows in.
