College is a great investment—if you choose the right school. MONEY analyzed graduation rates, tuition charges, family borrowing, and alumni earnings (plus 22 other data points) to find the country’s top values. Find your fit with rankings that combine educational quality, affordability, and alumni success.

-Not be in financial distress.
-Have a graduation rate that was at or above the median for its institutional category (public, private or historically black college or university), or have a high “value-added” graduation rate (in other words: score in the top 25% of our test of graduation rates after accounting for the average test scores and percentage of low income students among its enrollees).
-A total of 727 schools met these requirements-

Damn. That's a really big dropoff after LSU. Big 5!

ETA: I thought it was obvious I was being satirical.

Alabama being dead fricking last makes sense

They arent a bad academic school at all, but their philosophy of being over 50% out of state (ridiculous for a flagship public university) inflates the cost of their tuition making it higher than other schools in their bucket, thus deeming them low ranked in this list

How terrible do we have to be to be ranked behind 610 other colleges? That's an average of over 10 per every state higher than Alabama.

It's not a rank of the colleges

As lsu87 noted, we probably have one of the highest "average" tuition rates due to so many OOS kids.

This is how colleges should be analyzed. Not by class sizes and "peer institution opinions" like the US News rankings

First, the OOS tuition is probably lower than some state's in state tuition.
Second, a large number of OOS students are here in part for receiving a scholarship.
Are these tuition rates including these facts?
