Seven black assistants, the most in the SEC (at least that was the number quoted during Barry Odom’s time at the podium by one of the people asking questions.)

I thought Odom did a good job addressing it and explaining it.

Made me wonder though, how many black assistants there are in the conference this year?

For SC we have ...

A white HC who also coaches Safeties.

A white QB coach (Werner) and a white TE coach (Bentley) and a white Nickle/Sam LB coach and ST coach (x2 in Krantz amd Hutzler) and a while OLine coach in The Wolf.

We have a black DC and a black OC in TRob and BMac who also coach DBs and WRs respectively. (I think we’re the only program with both black coordinators but I’m not sure.)

We have a black RB coach (Cooper). A black DLine coach (Scott) A black Outside LB coach (Peterson).

Five black coaches, Five white coaches, one white madman HC.

How about your staff and here’s the follow up ....

Do black coaches help your recruiting efforts in your opinions?

IMHO you hire the best coach for the position regardless of color but there might be an argument made for black coaches helping in recruiting .... I am honestly just not sure.

LSU has one old white guy... two if you count O.

WR, TE, RB, DL, and CB coaches are all black.

QB - old white guy

OL, Pass Coord, LB, and Safety coaches are all white and under 45.

Race isn't part of what makes a good coach and doesn't really matter.

I'm not arguing about how E does or does not affect recruiting.

All I am saying is that your statement that LSU is "Old White Guy U" or whatever is factually incorrect.

Who cares? I don’t care about the race or skin tone of my team’s coaches. Do they know what they’re doing, can they coach up players and win? That’s all I care about.

Upvoted and true IMHO.

But how do you think the mommas look at it?

What about some of the prospects?

What about the players coming from predominantly black High Schools with all black coaching staffs.

I just never thought about it before until Odom was confronted with it during his time at the podium.

ETA: Holy shite I cannot believe this thread was anchored especially when journalists will be writing stories about black coaches in the league before the day is out.

This has to be the epitome of hypocrisy. Bad call. If we cannot discuss this without the bullshite it’s just wrong.

Any program that focuses on winning identity politics points rather than hiring the best coaches will never win any significant games.

Have honestly never even thought about it. Coach will hire the best guys he can get regardless of color.
