Mizzou - what's the deal this year? Any souring on Drink?

Didn't see a year 2 dip coming - was this expected at all?

After last year, obviously our hopes were sky high, as seen on the rant all offseason . But we all knew deep down we would most likely go around .500 (or at least I thought so). We just don't have the upperclassmen that can compete. Our best players/athletes are all freshman and sophomores for the most part. It will take a year or two to get them with experience needed and continue the recruiting of better athletes to compete at the high level of SEC play.

Just confirmation on sorry-azz Odom. HC Drinkwitz is building.

It’s year two, stop blaming Odom. Arkansas is in year two and ranked #8 in the country. There’s no reason Drink couldn’t do that.
Arkansas won 7 total games the last years. Missouri has no excuse.

The same deal since 1890 with Mizzou

I was told to win this league, you have to have talent. You can have a weird season of success without, but it wont sustain.
He's bringing in the talent to win, and is .500 with the little talent he has had - Not too bad.
I think the issue was overachieving last year, which is what make's this year a little harder to swallow. But you have to be excited, and impressed with the recruits hes brining in.

We took their defensive front and Drink did a poor job replacing them and hasn't developed his QB.

And Drink still has more SEC wins in the same time frame.

If Pitt can recover from Chad Morris in less than 2 years, Drink can make do with what Odom left. Can't really blame Odom when you actually had a better team last year.

Orgeron lost to this guy while Mizzou was winless, lol.

Didn't say anything about Odom. All I said is in the very short window for both coaches(two years is a short window) Drink still has more SEC wins. Its actually possible *close your eyes pigs* both coaches are great hires. WHO SAID THAT.

I mean... It was the third game of the year, and one of the first 2 was against Bama... this is a reach lol.

A reach? I stated simple documented facts.

If you dont understand this is a reach, I'll just walk away, no point in showing you how much it was.
A fact doesn't change it from being a reach.

so you expect him to be able to replace an entire DLine in one year?

No souring yet. If we are not on a significant upswing by year four, then things would sour. Not to sound like a broken record, but Barry Odom really did a number on us in terms of the utter lack of talent he recruited:
2016: 43rd ranked class nationally; 13th SEC
2017: 43rd nationally; 13th SEC
2018: 43rd nationally; 13th SEC
2019: 37th nationally; 13th SEC
2020: 51st nationally; 13th SEC
In five seasons, he managed to secure six four-star recruits and zero five-star recruits. Most shocking of all, Odom is a very talented defensive coach, but somehow managed to recruit just two four-star defensive players during his tenure. Most of the linebackers (his own position) were two-star kids...
I think Odom is a solid coach, especially on the defense side of the ball, but you can't win in this league with that type of a talent disadvantage. It's understandable that he wasn't pulling top recruits from out-of-state, but he wasn't even landing local talent. Missouri is by no means a talent-rich state, but we produce about 10 four-star caliber recruits per season, plus a couple more just over the Kansas side of the state-line that we should really be securing on a regular basis. Odom wasn't getting ANY of these local kids.
So that is the mess Drink inherited, and those classes represent the majority of our present roster. By comparison, Drink has done this on the recruiting trail:
2021: 27th nationally, 11th SEC
2022: 17th nationally, 6th SEC
In just one class (2022), Drink has recruited the same number of four-star recruits (6) as Odom managed during his entire tenure.
So we're going to give Drink some time, he is getting the players, let's see what he can do with them once they've had a couple years to develop.

This is such a lazy take. Arkansas was recruiting so much better than Mizzou in the seasons leading up to the Drink and Pittman hires. Y'all had the 25th, 29th and 23rd ranked classes while we had the 51st, 47th, and 43rd ranked classes. There is only so much you can do with a depleted roster. And taking a single four-game stretch is not representative of the overall state of a program: take a look at Ed O at LSU.

The other one was where you got dominated by a team that would lose 6 straight and finish 3-7.
