SDS Article

I didn't know much about KJ once he committed to Mississippi State and I certainly didn't watch him prior to his arrival. Not usually a fan of SDS, but I think they did a good job here giving us a look at how KJ might perform under Leach's Air Raid offense.

KJ looks to be a skillful QB. It will be interesting to see if he can help elevate the WR position; a spot that has been a glaring weakness for the Bulldogs since the inception of the forward pass.

Yall have more than made up for it with RBs, and that looks to still be true for KJ, which could help him considerably.

Getting Kylin back was huge. I would love to see if he can get near the 750/750 mark. He will be a staple of this offense, which might be contrary to how many people perceive Leach's Air Raid.

I’m not getting my hopes up over another QB transfer, but I do think Leach is a hell of a lot more competent than Moorneck was and has the ability to get a lot out of Costello.

I literally addressed this point in my post.

State fans are hoping that Leach can better teach the WRs to get open and catch the ball. It must be possible--it's not like Leach had 4-star and 5-star receivers at Texas Tech and Washington State.

And, as you said, hoping Costello can help the receivers by throwing more accurately.

It’s not like he was playing very good defenses in those conferences, either. Hoping I’m proved wrong.

Welcome to 2020 where the SEC does not play defense much either.

Tommy Stevens was a career backup for four years. Costello was a three year starter. Nothing close to the same kinda scenario. You should be excited.

True, but in his 8 years at Washington State, he had 1 defensive 4-star on his roster.

State will have 9 4-star players on the defensive roster just this year. And we just graduated several NFL draftees on defense over the past two seasons, including 3 first rounders. Mississippi State has never had problems getting 4-stars on defense. Occasionally State even gets a 5-star on defense.

State has had decent to good defenses under every head coach and most of the many defensive coordinators State has had since Sherrill was hired in 1991. NOT COUNTING YOU, PETER SIRMON.

As a result, Leach will have much better defenses at State than he had at Washington State and Texas Tech.

Edit: Oh, I read your post wrong. I thought you were talking about Leach's defenses and you were talking about the defenses Leach has played against. Oh well, my point still stands even if it doesn't rebut yours. At least Leach did coach in Power 5 conferences. Many new head and assistant coaches in the SEC haven't even done that.
