I like Sly. He was a solid player for Coach Bryant. That game might have been Nick's 1st at Bama to get on the field after a Bama player. I forget the player but he later left the team due to health issues.

I've forgotten all 4 of your wins in the last 100 years

They come as often as Haley's Comet

My Dad and I were at that game. The pandemonium that occurred at the end of that game will never be duplicated again in my life.
Bama had a 28 game SEC winning streak.
Bama had an overall 26 game winning streak.
Bama had won 22 straight over State.
They were on a similar stretch similar to what they have been under Saban in the recent years.
Can you imagine winning 28 straight conference games in a row?

State had a very good team that year. 9-2 in the regular season losing to Nebraska in the Sun Bowl. It was not a fluky win. It was well earned.

The only time that I know of that a losing coach (Bear) visited the winning teams locker (State) room and congratulated them on the victory. Tremendous class by that man.

The golden days of SEC football when defense mattered and we still used a fullback and took snaps under center

I was in Jackson that day myself and that was a long long drive back to Montgomery.

Bama missed out on a QB after Steadman and it showed in 1980. Had John Fourcade signed with Bama instead of Steve Sloan and Ole Miss then Bama would have completed that 3 repeat in 80 and UGA would still be without a NC.

I can imagine it was. Defenses ruled day and that was a brutal , physical game. Thankfully State had an off day the next Saturday then the following week we skull dragged LSWHO 55-31.
Had we played the next week, we would have probably lost that game. The off week was a Godsend.

I never realized that Fourcade considered going to Bama.

You really think he is retiring after losing to Ohio State?
