Mike Leach has to be in an awkward position

The man takes the Miss St job and moves to the deep south for the first time in his life. Then racial tensions peak at their highest level in decades. Suddenly, one of his star players refuses to play until the Mississippi state flag is changed because it currently contains the confederate battle flag. He is forced to stand by him and call for the flag to be changed. Meanwhile, most of the bulldog fanbase proudly waves the stars and bars from the back of their pickup trucks. If they made a movie about this it would be called “No one remembers the Bulldogs”.

Not the first time in this part of the country. Has a degree from US Sports Academy in Mobile, Alabama. Coached at Valdosta State in Georgia for 5 years. Then spent 2 years at Kentucky as OC.

Lubbock, TX might as well be the deep south. There isn't a county in TX that is more conservative voting-wise.
