I keep hearing the line that college coaches go to the NFL to take on the "highest level".

I understand that this is the mentality, but I question the premise itself.

Of course, the level of play in the NFL is higher than in college, but I don't see this as a function of coaching. It's about the athletes.

An NFL job is probably more pure coaching, simply because so much of the admin/CEO role (personnel, marketing, compliance, etc.) is done by other subordinates of the GM, and maybe that is the attraction and differentiator. I disagree that this makes the job itself any more challenging or that success in the NFL is a more impressive accomplishment.

I guess if your goal is to show that you are a better "coach", it might make sense. Even then, though, an NFL head coach is not that much different than a college coach. Neither of them are doing more than setting the overall direction and management. The nuts and bolts of execution are further down the chain.

Urban Meyer couldn't handle the stress at Florida or Ohio State. He'll get eaten alive in the NFL.

Question is, who wins the coarch Uban Meyers sweepstakes when he gets fired in a few years? Like Bama with Saban

All football, all the time. No babysitting, no worrying about kissing booster arse, no worrying about NCAA compliance.

I think Meyer was making about 6 mil @ tOSU, and i'd bet he'll get at least a 3 mil bump with the Jags.

•What else can he prove in the NCAA?

•He’s also gotten away with running a questionable program twice, why risk destroying your legacy coming for a third?

•Insane guaranteed money WITH a franchise QB you can mold from day 1.

•Florida is a good place to retire.

You hit the nail on the head here. Recruiting is hard work and often requires coaches to act in ways that may not be comfortable (or ethical). NFL coaches may have some input in personnel matters, but they are not the decision makers when it comes to player personnel. Their job is easier than their college peers.

Money for sure
Even if it doesn't work out you get a boatload of cash

I will be interested to see how he does at that level.

As much as he may love her ....I think Urb needs time away from Shelley .She seems like she could be a pain in the arse . And with his volatile make -up, he could end up blasting her in the face and he doesnt want to do that ...Hes got enough money from coaching .Money is no issue . So Ego and not accidentally cracking ShelDog in the jaw is the reason he needs to coach

The main kicker is he cant stand losing games, to the point that whether it be real or a bullshite cop out he seems to have a health episode everytime his team starts to struggle in any way. He is going to struggle for atleast 3 years with the jags. And he is most likely not going to continuously maintain constant success after that. Not that he isnt a good coach but it appears to be damn near impossible to do in the NFL.

1) more money
2) don’t have to spend the entire offseason recruiting

Isn’t that enough reason?
