SEC commissioner @GregSankey on @dpshow: "Our medical advisory group has said, ‘Yes, we can continue to go forward.’ Should that advice change, that would certainly be a stopping point."

Sankey has always alluded to the medical advisory board making the call.

Basically, you have another week until we have to cancel it.

Every schools Medical Advisory Group should be the same group that is advising schools to open their campus to students. That way the Presidents can explain how you can have one and not the other.

He was talking about moving forward to prepare to play. Not play. Silly distinction yes

This is all a dog and pony show

The problem is that Sankey also said the SEC would not go alone. All reports indicate that the Big 10 and Pac 12 medical guys are saying cancel. So what's the move when two, maybe 3, P5 conferences call it quits? He also indicated that 'adopting' teams will not happen. So teams like Ohio State that want to play elsewhere just lost their leverage.

My guess is that the P5 will unify sometime in the next week and make a joint announcement cancelling the season.

Advisory group employed by member schools give them the answer they want to hear. I'm shocked.

You could just as easily spin the pac-12 the other way. A medical advisory panel comprised of people with no stake in whether football is played?

Panel: “Playing football is more dangerous than not playing football. End of discussion. You should cancel.”

Why is every other sport able to find a way back to playing? Are they somehow safer, or did they decide the benefits outweigh the risks? Under a “safer to not play” standard, it will never be medically advisable to play college football again

Are players not going to work out at all during the off season? Live in a bubble? Bc it’s just as dangerous living your normal life and then working out if myocarditis is a huge threat

I'd much rather take the advice of someone with no stake in it.

Except that's not the question they were asked to answer.

Are other college sports playing? Professional sports are a lot different.

Smart that they are more knowledgeable than he or the fans will be.

Also smart as the liability is shifted off of him.

How are pro sports different if the question is pure safety? And not optics?

And that was essentially the question they were asked to answer. The medical advisors were not asked to weigh the harm of not having football to the players, schools, communities, and fans against the risks of playing. They did not weigh the fact that the players, knowing the risks, want to play.

Their job is to say whether playing football in the time of covid is “safe.” Which it’s not, in the sense that no physical activity and no physical contact is much safer.

There’s no way it’s “safe” in that sense for years. Maybe ever. But sure cancel college sports. At least the douchebags in sports media will lose their jobs

More frequent testing, more able to limit outside exposure (don't have to live on campus, go to classes, etc.), fewer team members, slightly older (more likely to make safer decisions and can afford to make better decisions), they have unions, etc.
