I’m gonna guess at one point you were a strong supporter of the Gene Chizik hire. This to shall pass. After going through the Fire Less debacle, I know 1st hand how nerve wracking finding a new coach is. Most coaches available at the time we looked (outside of JFisher - and he’s not worth close to the money he commanded) are absolutely garbage currently at their programs. So good luck and choose wisely.

This is just sheer stupidity on part of auburn. Why in God's name would we pay Gus 21mil to only promote his own assistant and likely keep most of the staff

New blood is a good thing. You knew you weren’t getting to the promise land with Gus so why not? But you’re absolutely correct - paying out 21M only to hire Steele is a bad idea if that is in fact the case.

To save $9 million and spread the full cost of the buyout over a couple of years. That's literally the only explanation I can think of.
