Matt Luke steps down

From the Georgia board;
"Actually got a chance to talk with him this morning, he is completely stepping down for family reasons. His sons are both in middle schools grades and he wants a chance to watch them play sports. He has thought about this for a while, but actually just made the final decision recently.
He and his family are staying in the Athens area, they love it here. Will have more to come on this but right now wanted to shoot down any rumors, this decision was made to spend more time as a Father and Husband.
I called Jordan around 11am this morning and told him to get a story ready, but Coach Luke wanted to be able to tell his players face to face this afternoon, so we held off until an official release. That will come from UGA shortly, I am sure."

I was getting ready to post this also and you beat me to it, so I'll just paste it here instead.

Georgia will be looking for a new offensive line coach.
Dawgs247 learned Monday that Matt Luke will step down after two seasons as the Bulldogs’ associate head coach/offensive line coach. The 45-year-old Luke is not expected to take another coaching position at this time, a source told Dawgs247.
Luke came to Georgia prior to the 2020 season after spending the previous eight seasons at Ole Miss, including the final three as the head coach of his alma mater.
Luke was an especially effective recruiter for the Bulldogs. Since Luke was hired at Georgia in December 2019, Georgia signed 14 offensive linemen, including two five-star prospects and seven four-stars.
Luke will become the fourth on-field assistant to leave Georgia this offseason. He joins former defensive coordinator Dan Lanning — now the head coach at Oregon — wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton and defensive backs coach Jahmile Addae.

Something doesn’t sound right about this

He’s still getting like $150,000 per month from OM for his buyout.
He’ll be just fine

Respect for him doing it to be able to spend time with his kids

Hell if I could have swung it financially when I was at that stage of life I would have.

God, that would be awesome. I should have learned to coach something really well instead playing sports growing up.

AKA, the old "I just want to spend more time with my family" trope?

I'm surprised with the generational wealth these coaches are getting more aren't doing this when their kids are still young.

I live in Georgia and I heard that Luke is having an affair with Clesi Crochet. He's been burning up the road between Athens and Auburn instead of getting ready for spring practice.

Living the dream by being a "retired" football coach with buyout money still coming in, and he gets to live in Athens.
Damn I'm jealous of him

That's too bad. Will be easy to get a better oline coach even this late in the year.

While Pitman was an excellent recruiter, I think the OL played better under Luke, but maybe that was Monken being better than the guy Tennessee way overpaid to get.

Did a double take. Hell, I'd be fine with $150K per year.

That's the perfect age to take some time away and enjoy your kids lives.
Once they start driving, it's over
He can always get back into it later
