I don't trust anyone who's last name is the name of a Western Hemisphere country.

How does that happen?

Most families, at least European non-Russian people, got last names what? 500+ years ago? How the frick did they get Canada?

Who is named after a New World Country other than Michael Vick/Ron Mexico?

You've never met a Johnny Honduras or a Michael Nicaragua.

Very shifty dude that one.

“O Canada” sounded good together but obviously it was better in theory than in reality.

Joey Freshwater is an interesting origin as well.

But the answer most of the time is the Americanization of last names from other countries to be easier to pronounce during immigration.

So you're saying he's covering something up and we have no idea what this guy's last name actually is. He could be Matt Huegelschmidt... or he could really be Matt Hitler.

Is that a chance any team is really willing to take?

Hmm I like Ron Mexico. Anytime I go to the erm... clinic or to an animal fighting match, I use a "pseudonym" like that to honor the originator.

Harry Honduras
Billy Bahamas
Wesley Keys
Brad Brazil
Earnest Ecuador
Paul Panama
Carl Costa Rica

etc....
