I haven't been keeping up with the BBCOR stuff lately, but I know it was easy to tamper with the first generation and get the "life" back in the bats. Just had to pop the cap off the end and remove a ring from inside the bats to get the trampoline effect back...
I know they test them in Omaha and put certification stickers on them before they are allowed to be used -- but I can't find any info showing that testing goes on at any point the rest of the season. If they don't test, I imagine there are quite a few illegal bats out there. Nevermind that the actual penalties are prettymuch a joke if caught using illegal bats.
I'm certainly not saying that Katz is doing anything wrong, and I highly doubt that he is. But it is a valid topic to discuss about college baseball in general...
