That double salute was for the gumps, wasn’t it?

Probably. he was a bit of a wild child in college and early in his pro career. At some point he began attending church and became a Christian. I believe he died of a heart attack after playing in a pick up basketball game at a church.

I predict it'll be entertaining right up until the time Connie Hawkins proclaims Pete talented but, "every kid coming out of Harlem could do what he does with the ball".
...or something to that effect.

Really looking forward to it. But what took so long? Pistol should have been the second SEC Storied.

Best basketball player in LSU history, one of the greatest shooters and passers in the history of the game, can’t imagine how good LSU would’ve been had he been more a double-double guy instead of 44-6-5 average, the Steph Curry of the 1960s

Averaged over 44 points/game
BEFORE there was a 3-point line
Just insane

In a 1974 interview with Pistol Pete, responding to the unhappiness of the fans with his performance, he stated "I don't want to play 10 years in the NBA and die of a heart attack at age 40".
Maravich later died of a Heart Attack, age 40 years old, after a 10 year career in the NBA

Coach Dale Brown tracked every shot he made once upon a time and I want to say it would have been 57 points per game with a three point line. He also shot at a 44% completion percentage.

This should be good. Pistol Pete was a magician.
