Then, it will never be said again and his nickname will officially be gone.
So thank you JFF's parents for putting an end to Johnny Football
Why? Do you no longer say Coke, Microsoft, Xerox, FedEx, Kinkos, Apple, America's team, New Orleans Saints, Chick-fil-a, CAT Rental, Mercedes, American Airlines, and Pepsi?
Trademarks are source identifying. A trademark doesn't mean you can't call something by its name.

The university and the Football family only did this after a College Station lawyer with no ties to the school or the Football family tried to trademark the name. Nothing to see here.

Actually, most shows don't say any of those names, unless they are being paid for advertising wise.
They are trademarking the name, just like the happy birthday song is trademarked. You will no longer being hearing Johnny football on tv, book it.

You missed the point. A trademark doesn't mean you can't say something
Just trust me on this one, ok?

Do you think Verne will actually go ask the family if he is allowed to say Johnny Football?

You really believe what you are saying? People say things that are trademarked on TV all the time.

Way to take a big risk there.

That would violate a number of amateur status rules. Unlikely.

That's a very gay name to TM.
