In reading the Texas boards, they’ve obviously gone into high gear with their coaching change fans wishlist. A lot of names that you’d expect: Urban, Fleck, Campbell, Patterson, Mullen
However, one name I keep seeing pop up pretty often from Texas fans that baffled me is Gus Malzahn.
Am I missing something here? Why would anyone want Gus at the moment?
ETA: thread not so much about Texas because I think Herman will get 2021 regardless, but I was certainly surprised to see Gus being mentioned by some Longhorn fans.

I think Urban is truly done at this point, time to stop throwing his name around I believe. When he left Florida he was still so young I think most thought he would come back. But he had a good thing going at Ohio State, I can’t see him walking back through anyone’s door.

Desperate for answers. Longhorns 1 for 7 against TCU since 2014

Are you reading Surly Horns or something?

But to your overall point, I think Gus is a decent coach, he has coached Auburn during a difficult time with a school in the same state having nick Saban and being on top of the world during Gus’ entire tenure almost. Also, they have played Saban and Bama better than anyone else during that time. He out coached Saban just last year to get the W

Considering Texas thinks they and the Big 12 are the pinnacle of college football, they sure do love trying to get themselves some SEC coaches.

Maybe. But he is the worst scout in college football. And he is a poor recruiter.

what would be interesting is if a school like Texas hired an independent scouting department for Gus and managed the roster for him. With all the money in college football its kinda stupid this has not already happened somewhere.

Mullen would get eaten alive by those boosters. It takes a personality like Saban to put those kind of guys in their place. I don't know of anyone like that they can get

No one, other than ULM, would want him.
Gus had one bright, shining moment in '13 with two miracle plays. Take out 2013 and Gus' winning percentage in the low 60s. Pure mediocrity.

Urban will be next up until he kills a coed...

Yes please! They don’t play defense in that conference. I like where their heads are at!

I just discovered the glorious website that had the thread about those damn Texas statues on it, Shaggybevo, no longer exist. I was actually telling my wife about that not too long ago. Thats a shame.
