quote:

“There are so many rumors out there, just like with NIL,” Brown said. “Are these kids making as much as they say they are? Some of them aren’t. I had a guy sitting in my office and say, ‘Coach, I’ve been offered $350,000.’ He was a recruit. I thought he was an OK player. He said, ‘I’ve been offered $350,000 to take it.’ I held up my phone and said, ‘Let’s call them now, man. You ought to take it. You need to take it before you get out of this office. I’d hold them to that if they offered you that much.’”

All these players have an agent of various sorts, advising them how to play the game. And these agents are like cock roaches, once in the building, they'll never go away.

this isn’t a market driven by standard rules of economics. The NIL money is not being given for any sort of monetary return.

That’s why it’ll correct itself. These investors are getting nothing in return and will realize that shortly.

They already realize that they aren’t getting a return. They don’t care

Who doesn’t care? Few people get rich by being stupid. People are throwing money now because it’s the hot thing to do and they can to help their school win. It’s not going to take long for a lot of people to realize this is wasting money and these kids they are paying aren’t panning out nor are good representations of their money.

It certainly won’t stop completely or anywhere close, but I don’t think most of these kids have near the value they currently are getting.

What benefit/return on investment does the average donor get for donating to a new workout facility? New locker room? New nutrition center?

What I think will happen is that the big money donors will reduce their amounts donated to the schools and athletic departments and funnel their money to collectives and NIL groups.

It’s going to be interesting.

What's this worth to an alumni of a school that's never won one?

Odds are that's not a question I'll ever have to think about.

They get to keep their dignity as opposed to buying players/prostitutes?

They are trying to play the game but do not know how. People around them are telling them to create a bidding war but more times than not no one has actually offered them a dime.

The funny part is I heard this is happening all the time now.

Here's whats gonna happen. The NCAA looks to be doing nothing, by plan.

Schools with deep pockets are gonna throw 10's oof millions at recruits, which is "illegal" but not enforced so:

You are part of a collective or a big booster who buys a highs school player. With these numbers being thrown around that booster fully expects to see his merchandise displayed.
The player shows up, isn't as dedicated, isn't as good, just isn't the player he was paid millions for. Coach doesn't play him, booster is now agitated. Coach tells booster he runs the program, booster sees it differently.
dissention is all over the place. Coach resigns and sings like a canary, player transfers and sings like a canary. Others in program start talking. School is labeled rogue. Boosters are more careful about buying players and want to see results before pay.
SMU had all the money and bought recruits you could imagine and it fell on them like a house on fire.
As Dale Hansen said, a booster thinks he buys the recruit but the recruit actually buys him.

It will fix itself. This is the starting point and these idiots are too dumb to see past their own hands. Boosters believe all guys are can't miss. Once these guys start not living up to the hype, trouble will then start.
A kid who has proven himself at a university deserves something. I don't think millions, but deserves something and they will be fine. The bought, unproven high school players who signed JUST for money are where this will come off the tracks.

probably wouldn't hurt to implement a rule stating that NIL eligibility starts when you're a sophomore. but that probably goes against SCOTUS's ruling.
