He was not ready to be a head coach and it was obvious but he was a very good recruiter and a good O Line coach. Stop this stupid narrative. Georgia got a good one.

He was put into an impossible situation, brought in great coaches and had a damn good recruiting class.

We don't hate him. Look, here's why the majority of Ole Miss fans think he's a shitty coach:

Back when Oregon was selling Hummers in Oxford, Luke was the OL coach. However, Luke quit Ole Miss and ran off to join Cutcliffe because he said that recruiting was too hard and took up too much of his personal time. That irk'd a good number of us.

When Luke came back to Oxford, alot of us remembered him quiting but figured we'd give him another chance. However, the OL became a weakness of the team and the OL play would just regress through the seasons. This was something we saw over and over again.

Luke was never able to coach up and develop a lineman. Unless he landed some 5 star OL, then we were always screwed. The OL played weak, never showed aggression, and were always bad under Luke.

Prior to Freeze banging hookers, we wanted him fired. He's a likeable guy and played for Ole Miss. But as a coach, he simply wasn't any good. However, Luke's family was embedded in the adminstration, so we knew we couldn't get rid of him.

When Freeze resigned, nobody in their right mind thought Luke would have gotten the interim tag - but it happened. We watched him make dumb decision after dumb decision, knowing it was just temporary. Then the rumors started.....

Quick back story - back when Pete Boone was the AD, there was a serious issue with nepotism/cronyism going on at Ole Miss. The GOB network, if you will. It took a campaign called Forward Rebels to publicly call this out and removed Boone, and remove some of the GOBs from power.

Back to the rumors on Luke being the next HC... Those rumors started up, and most of everyone thought it was ludicrous - no way would a lazy, shitty OL coach be named HC. As much as I like to rag on Bjork, Luke wasn't who he was gonna hire (Doreen was lined up). However, the GOBs (and Luke's family) stepped in and forced the Luke hire. This was their way to try to recover control after the Forward Rebels campaign.

To make it worse, the contract with Luke was iron clad - over $3million per year, guaranteed payoff for his entire contract, guaranteed auto roll-over while Ole Miss was on probation - all for an OL coach that never even worked as a coordinator.

We watched for years as Luke screwed up constantly during games, and got his arse handed to him in recruiting within Mississippi.

The guy got very rich (thanks to his dad and brother) by accepting his dream job. Hard to blame him for that really. But as a OL coach, he was below average.

TL;DR version - shitty coach that got the job because of his daddy and brother. Not a bad person.
