It's been combination of things. Injuries up front have hurt the pass rush. Guys like Logan, Lawrence & Chaisson have all missed multiple games. All 3 were hurt in the Texas game & have just gotten back over the last 2 games.

Secondly, Aranda has played way more zone coverage this season than in years past. With the lack of pass rush, it's given opposing QBs more time to find the open pockets in the zone coverage.

The problems in coverage have been directed towards the nickel corner (Kary Vincent) as Fulton & Stingley have played really well. Teams have also exploited our LBs in coverage too. Our LBs play the run better than the pass.

I agree with all of this.

LSUs defense is weaker than years past but it is not the dumpster fire people make it out to be. A lot of their failures this year have been circumstantial.

And I’m not gonna say this game is gonna get ugly. This game very rarely gets ugly for either side. This is gonna be a 1-2 score game.

This is what drives us crazy. It to me has been a combination of things with each game at times being different. To begin the year against Texas we started to get D linemen hurt. That game we saw a great QB carve us up. Sometimes a great QB will do that. After this game injuries on the line hurt our pass rush. At times LSU would start playing more zone than man, communication in the secondary at times would fail and give up big plays. They have gotten better but we are at our best in man coverage. Against Florida in first half we couldn’t stop Trask and Florida’s receivers, second half they did much better.

I feel the same way about our LBs in coverage most of the time

I think that now that we have established our run game (balance) the last month we go back to TEMPO (outscoring) mode. It will be back to the Blitzkrieg score as fast as we can mode. Quick release and don't play into Auburn's strengths. Like how we played Texas and Florida basically. Not how we played State . That's not to say we won't run, but just that it will be at tempo.

Defensive scheme, fast scoring offense, bad tackling and penalty's extending drives.

It has driven me crazy the way they play off receivers and let them run free. Aranda is making teams make plays to beat us by not giving up big plays.

Also, Auburn’s strength offensively is running the ball, and LSU has stopped the run really well, though we may not have faced a rushing attack as potent as Auburn’s.

People overlook that three of our top five cb’s are true freshman. Man coverage is instinctive where it takes time to learn different zone coverages.

Vincent is fast but small. His struggles are against larger more physical receivers.

Since the Texas game, when Aranda has wanted a stop late in a game he’s gotten one. He can switch from teaching zones to shutting people down. I’m not saying he isn’t trying to three and out them with zones. Those defenses get better with experience and communication.

With this offense we can flip the switch and go to two minute TDS. Less pressure that way.

I actually like our secondary somewhat. Our linebackers really struggle in coverage though. Brady/Ensminger are going to attack the middle of the field like hell. Gotta hope Burrow misses high a couple times for a couple INT's.

What really makes this LSU Offense so difficult to defend is that they can attack the defense in so many ways. Brady & Ensminger ideally want to Pass Protect 5 with 5 out wide. This gives Burrow basically unlimited options and opens up the middle of the field forcing LB’ers into coverage.

If LSU’s Oline can hold up with 5 in pass protection, this will put a lot of pressure on Auburn’s defense, especially the LBers and secondary.

Auburn's front 7 can play with anyone and our DB's have tackled well in space. Our D is great but not elite...the front 4 are elite.

However, the biggest issue is the one way to combat our D is to throw quick slants and take advantage of man coverage miss matches. LSU's strength.

The real issue in this game for Auburn is our pass O is so mediocre and that appears to be LSU's greatest defensive weakness. I don't expect Auburn to exploit it much.

If Gus gave the bulk of the carries to Williams and Joiner we would be better off than if Whitlow was healthy

But it's Gus so we're going to see a frick ton of Kam Martin instead

Throw Shivers in the mix and I would agree with this. I expect Kam Martin to get most of the carries given Gus’s trust issues

This is exactly how Auburn can win the game. Most importantly, if Auburn can get to Burrow with 4.

They're getting better. Early in the year there were big problems with tackling but that seems to be largely cleaned up. Other posters have mentioned the more passive zone schemes, (obviously aimed at Tua), but Aranda has been able to go man and dial up the pressure when needed. They're not as good as we expected pre-season but they're not the dumpster fire they looked like early in the season.
