The opponents’ marching band will no longer perform at halftime of LSU football games, under a new policy the athletic department instituted starting this season, team spokesman Michael Bonnette confirmed Friday.

“It’s a safety issue,” Bonnette told The Advocate. “We don’t have room down there for both bands. In order for bands to perform at half, they’ve got to come down to the field before the first half ends. That’s a lot of people on the sideline.”

Bonnette declined comment when asked whether there have been any sideline incidents between opposing band members or between band members and LSU fans. None has been reported, but the new policy would prevent potential skirmishes.

LSU’s new policy will affect traveling bands, and at least one official isn’t happy about it.

Jacksonville State band director Ken Bodiford told Montgomery television station WFSA that he will no longer bring JSU’s band to the school’s Sept. 10 meeting with the Tigers, LSU’s home opener. Bodiford said he can’t justify the $120,000 expense of bus rental, hotel accommodations and meals for the trip if the band is not allowed to perform at halftime.

Retarded.

In that case, the rest of the SEC should not allow LSU's band to attend.

You are missing a gem in Jacksonville State's marching band. Easily the best marching band in the South.

I agree with you although I would not use the word that you did. I believe someone in the university committed a grave error with this decision

Using "safety" as a reason is retarded.

LSU, that sucks. I thought Louisiana took some damn pride in music.

Meh, none of your count-arse schools have a band worthy of sharing the field with the golden band.

Pride in music was an item lost during the last round of budget cuts.

This needs to happen. They get what they deserve.

I take this as LSU doesn't give a damn about being black balled on away games as it will save the state money anyways.

I've never seen LSU perform at BDS during halftime, but I rarely notice bands.

Yeah. But the big donors are going to be pissed when the LSU band doesn't get to travel. And they're the ones that are going to the away games.

I don't see the big deal. The golden band from tigerland is like the Beatles of collegiate bands. Would you rather hear William Hung or The Eagles?

If the LSU band is the beatles, the Aggie Band is the Rolling Stones.
