As did Clemson, Bama, and UGA and those 3 schools(LSU beat all of em last year BTW) are always ranked above Oklahoma in the 1st poll

But LSU Who whooped OU more than any of those schools did is ranked below Oklahoma

Wats up with that?

Everyone waiting to see if LSU without your all-world QB and savant assistant will become Auburn 2.0 or simply reload.

Auburn in 2011 had several top 10 recruiting classes as well. It didn't save them from losing Cam and Gus.

If we're still lighting up the scoreboard with Brennan after the first few weeks, we'll be ranked above them.

We just lost a Heisman winning QB who had the best statistical season in the history of the sport.

There are naturally some questions as to how good we'll be without him.

We would still spank Oklahoma this coming season. They are a joke and they lost their QB and RB also

LSU and Clemson whooped Oklahoma in the playoff, the other two did not. Georgia got beat up for 55 minutes and needed a miracle to beat them

Preseason polls are nothing to be upset about.

Last year A1abana started #2 - and they weren’t even in the Top 12 by December. (Oof)

Oklahoma shouldn't get back into the playoffs, unless they go undefeated. They've shown that they're just a rent a win for whoever is lucky enough to draw that seed. There were probably 5 other teams that were realistically better than them, at the end of the year, that were left out of the playoffs due to a harder schedule.

You do realize Oeaux built that team right? He didn't walk into that team.

Exactly why there’s no reason to even pay attention to preseason polls.

Take off your homer glasses and recognize two things:

1. LSU is replacing a ton of talent off a historically great team
2. Riley/OU have shown over the last four seasons that they can replace a Heisman winner/finalist with seemingly no issues

It’s a preseason poll.

What does Patrick Queen complaining about a preseason poll on twitter have to do with anything?

Last 3 coaches have won National Championships. Won 3 and played for 4 in 16 years. Other than Bama and Florida all these pretenders would cut their balls for that. Hardly a one trick pony. Pretty stupid comment.

Does this mean you won't win another until you get a new coach since none of your coaches have been able to sustain success and/or they left for better jobs?

So you think 7 or 8 years until LSU has a chance to win another NC?

You do realize that I said that people are waiting to see. I never said LSU WOULD be Auburn 2.0, only that people are cautious about it. Burrow had the best season ever for a college QB; how much of LSU's success is because of that? How many games does LSU win last year with a Brennan at QB?

There are enough parallels for people to be cautious. Chizik's recruiting classes were 23rd (first season), then 6th and 5th in the country. Orgeron's were 2nd, 7th and 15th for his first three seasons. Both had an undefeated season, in no small part thanks to an all-world QB (Burrow, Newton) and someone innovative either calling or creating plays (Brady, Malzahn). The only difference is that we saw what happened after those events for Chizik, but not yet for Orgeron.

Yes, LSU's recruiting is a bit better than Auburn's was in the same time frame. Orgeron has that going for him. Their placements in relation to the rest of the SEC West is roughly the same, but Chizik had to work from further back than Orgeron.

No, I don't personally think LSU will follow the same path, but there's always going to be some level of caution when you lose that much for the pundits to still bet on you.

Or as the Critical Drinker would put it:

"Losing an all-universe Heisman QB and a coach that helped reinvent your offense, and half your WR corps among the 14 players drafted?"

"Nahhh, it'll be fine."

LSU will at least play for another within the next 5 years. We will all die and never see at least 9, likely 11 other SEC teams play for even one moving forward.

You make it sound like winning a NC every 7 years is a bad thing. Pretty stupid.
