LSU vs Auburn Penalties

LSU 9-91 yards
Auburn 9-111 yards
That is a lot of penalties. Were the officials calling it too tight? The reason I ask is it seems like they are really cracking down on physical play this season.

Hell, there were a ton they didn't call. Inconsistent is the main gripe from both sides.

I gotcha. I watched the game for about 30 minutes before the Gator game started and it was fast and physical. College refs just are no where near as good as NFL refs.

I get the last drive DPI's. I think they were close but you put yourself in that position and can't rely on the refs to make calls, the biggest gripe I had was the no call on Greedy Williams who literally pulled Slayton by the shoulder pads in front of the same ref who called those two last drive DPI.

Pretty much this, all the calls towards LSU were BS. The rest were legit though.

Yeah they have a tough job and sometimes not having the right angle can have an effect on the call, but someone always gets screwed. Part of the game. Have to try and overcome it.

The unsportsmanlike penalty was horse shite.

Well of course.

Two undisciplined teams.
LSU had movement on line, face mask, etc.
AU DBs has PIs down after down.
AU held LSU’s def line constantly.
I guess they throw some flags on close plays that might get ignored here and there, but the team that played and coached better Won a close game where 3 points early could have made the difference.
150 plays in a game. LSU Won the turnover margin and third down.
It is what it is.
Congrats to Coach O and the Tigers who own us.

This is the conclusion I have come to. We just flat out got beat in a game that felt like we shouldn't have lost. Our "dominant front 7" weren't dominant at all.
I didn't put any stock in their ugly SLU win, but still brought a lot of confidence into us winning this one. That proved to be dumb.

Dammit. Truth.

IMO they should let them play more...the 50/50 ball is to great of an advantage to the O.
I didn't have a problem with any call against Auburn, but would prefer they give the D more leeway.
I was disappointed in the missed call on our last drive against the LSU DB and a missed false start on a LSU FG drive that likely would have forced a punt earlier in the game.
The rest of the penalties were all pretty obvious IMO and complaining about the calls is silly.

The last call on Dean was awful. He was playing the ball, had forearm on the receiver, and did not grab jersey or anything. That was pretty much how you should play defense. That call was atrocious and inexcusable.
The missed call on Greedy was criminal. Pure and simple.
The rest of the PI calls for the most part I'm fine with. could argue a couple were uncatchable balls, but the contact and everything was there so i'm fine with it.
The DPI on Dinson on the last LSU TD should have been defensive holding, not PI. The ball had not left the QB's had, not even close. Does that make a big difference in the grand scheme? Probably not, but it was incorrectly called.
The refs missed a ton of holds on both sides. The crew overall was stupidly inconsistent and very poor. The main outcry is because they had two just plain wrong calls that were drive continuing/ending impact at the end of the game that really did help decide the game.

Yea I was really confused why they called that PI. It was a clear hold before the pass was thrown.

Yep. Even Danielson said it was holding before the call got made. can't remember if that still is an automatic first down or not, but I don't think the yardage would have been a 1st down. I'll have to go back and watch though.
I feel like the TD pass was the very next play, so I mean that could have been a huge correction to make if it wouldn't have been an automatic 1st down. If the only difference was the 5 yard difference, then they still score on the next play and it makes very little difference.

This is why it is so important for DBs to get their head around. Officials give DBs the benefit of the doubt on close PI calls when they get their head around.
I believe that on the last drive versus Auburn, Auburns DBs were gassed. Because they were gassed they lost technique and the PI call ensued.

Maybe on some, but that last one on Dean that put y'all in field goal range, he had his head turned and was playing the ball. That is really the main one I'm upset about.

The targeting and ejection call got me.
I guess I can understand that is the rule but what is the supposed to do? He makes that hit with helmet or shoulderpad he is called and probably tossed he doesn't attempt it they get a first down. I hate the rule.
