This makes a lot of sense. Fisher, who was LSU’s offensive coordinator from 2000-2006, has professed his love for Baton Rouge on several occasions (including the day he was introduced as the Aggies’ head coach).

Fisher was also hired at Texas A&M by Woodward, so there’s an obvious connection in place.

I’m sure there are plenty of Aggies fans wondering why Fisher would leave College Station when he’s extremely well paid.

I think the answer is obvious — Fisher would almost be guaranteed a national championship at LSU.

Don’t have a Dawg in the hunt, but IMO, the Jimbo to LSU is not a dead issue. Stay tuned

Source is deathvalleyvoice.com, so nothing but wishful thinking from people that said repeatedly he’s a shitty coach. Yawn.

It's a dead issue. The fact is that if Fisher were entertaining LSU he would have stopped recruiting like he did at FSU years ago. He's not going to get all these kids at A&M, and then just say sorry I'm out to LSU. It's not the way he's built.

If A&M recruiting was stagnant I'd be a lot more worried. It is far from that. He's building an $8M house on one of the ranches he owns, and he's recruiting at a clip that hasn't been seen at A&M since JS. He also has an additional 100M in facility improvements on the way to supplement the elite facilities already in place

He'd be an idiot to leave for LSU. I don't think he's an idiot

Hey you make some good points and I just have a opinion, no facts. The only facts are that 1) the AD relationship, and 2) Jimbo has a zero dollar buyout…hard to understand that?

It makes no logical sense for him to leave A&M. He has $90MM or whatever guaranteed to him right now. His contract basically takes him into retirement. LSU would have to not only match what A&M has guaranteed him but also be willing to get into a bidding war with A&M, and that would result in a ridiculous contract in terms of length and guarantees for A&M or LSU. I'm not going to say Jimbo is a shite coach, but I think most would agree that his current guarantees are unprecedented and anything more would be hard to justify for anyone but Nick Saban. I honestly think Jimbo is a smokescreen. Woody may want him given their relationship, but I think Woody is smart enough to realize the numbers just don't make sense. The ship has sailed with Jimbo, and I really wish people would move on from that idea. The only way it would make sense is if money isn't a driving force whatsoever, which I don't believe is the case.

Sure, Jimbo doesn't have a buyout if he leaves, but he also has guaranteed money in the bank by staying. A very very large sum of money.

No doubt.

Higher expectations from the LSU fanbase for sure.

Maybe a better recruiting advantage at LSU but not worth uprooting everything he's already built.

A&M is probably the best job in the country if you look at it from a resources compared to expectations angle.

In my opinion, he needs to win a title before Texas and OU join the conference though because you lose what recruiting advantage you have to them at that point.

The only way Lsu is going to land Jimbo is if they offer him a lifetime contract. Basically, a 10 year fully guaranteed deal the auto renews yearly. Plus he’d have to make north of 10 M a year. Think they can manage that?

No, it isn't hard to understand that. Some of the most pessimistic people at A&M say he is happy at A&M. Fisher says he is. Wife says he is. AD says he is. AD even says that he and Fisher laugh over the rumors.

Kids are committing left and right, and we are on the verge of one of the best classes we've ever signed. We have signed off on 300M in athletic facilities improvements over what we currently have ...

As for the AD relationship, Fisher still gave FSU every chance to meet his demands before joining his buddy at A&M. He seems pretty loyal to me. But then, he could go against everything history says he is and sign with LSU anyway. Guess that is possible as well. We know that he and Woodward spoke this Summer already

Another WRONG BOARD gump. But LSU fans understand... you wouldn't get as many hits on the other board.

I think they could theoretically afford those numbers, but I also don't think any coach but Saban is worth a guaranteed deal like that. When you give a coach a deal like that, you need to be pretty damn sure he's going to deliver championships, and I think Saban is the only active coach that all but eliminates any risks to justify a contract like that.

So is LSU out of money? Don’t think that’s an issue

Despite what either can pay, I think money wise, Aggie will just want Jimbo more than LSU. They'll outbid LSU on anything LSU offers simply because they want him more.

The only way we see Jimbo in Baton Rouge is if he just wants to be with Woodward/at LSU that much, which I find HIGHLY unlikely.

LSU is looking to bring in what they perceive as a program builder to be there for the present and when Saban retires and beyond. They are not holding back on this one.

The intangible here is that Fisher has expressed in the past to powers that be that he would like to come back to LSU. None of us knows how genuine those statements were.
The other positive side for LSU is that if he does come it is not likely that he leaves until he retires.

So does the SEC for member institution that want to leave. How often does it actually happen? Never in recent history.

Why? Because teams stay filthy rich as long as they're in.

Same with Jimbo at A&M.

The zero dollar buyout is a non-issue.
