LSU is the Bitter Divorcee

LSU is the bitter divorcee. They had a good thing going with Saban once, but he moved on so they could both find happiness. And he has. It was rough for him at first. His rebound relationship with Miami didn’t work out. He finally found the perfect match when he was courted by Bama. He is thankful that he swiped right.

LSU has watched Saban and Bama for the last thirteen years and been filled with jealousy and rage. They have watch as he filled her cases with trophies and added to her jewelry collection. They have been guilty of saying it would never last and that he would cheat on her just like he cheated on them. In public, they claim that it was his loss when he left, but in private they cry because that isn’t the truth. It’s their loss and they feel it every day.

Sure, LSU moved on as best they could. They even found new coaches that won a trophy or two. Most teams would be happy and fulfilled in these relationships, but not LSU. They are still haunted by the one who got away. Sure, they proclaim to everyone who will listen that they finally found “the one.” The one that will finally take the heartache away and fill the Saban-shaped whole in their heart. Yet, time and time again these relationships in not only in failure, but humiliation.

There will come a day when the relationship with Saban and Bama will end. LSU will dance that day because Alabama will finally…finally!...understand their pain and humiliation. But Bama won’t cry. His leaving will be bittersweet, but overall, they will be grateful for the time they had together and for six national championships he brought home. Alabama has faced this loss before when the lost Bear Bryant. Capturing lightning in a bottle rarely happens to any program, but it has happened to them twice. That is something LSU will never understand.
