Source: Reddit post on composit rankings

By averaging the rankings of opponents (current rankings) we get a clearer picture of strength of wins.

1 LSU 46.6
2 Georgia 48.5
3 Utah 58.3
4 Oklahoma 59.6
5 Oregon 60.6
6 Ohio State 61.4
7 Clemson 67.7
8 Alabama 72.9

Example: LSU FBS opponents (9) are currently ranked 6, 11, 15, 30, 48, 51, 66, 77, and 115 total 419, avg 46.55.

Note: this doesn’t account for the losses, only strength of wins.

But they are hitting their stride. Clemson's schedule allows them to have bad games and still win, and then be full bore for the playoffs.

What's gonna suck is that Clemson has been prepping for Bama since the beginning of the season and now they likely won't get to see Bama in the playoffs. Oops.

I am hoping for a good game. If it is a blowout I would think it goes to LSU. Close game and we have a shot.

Those numbers are incredible.

Playoff committee needs to take these into account when they publish their rankings every week.

But Georgia has a loss that should be worth two.

I would say at this point we know who LSU Is

LSU is an absolutely elite
Offens with an above average defense

I think We can score on anyone but our defense doesn’t always show up a full game.

UGA is probably one of the best defenses in the country with an average game managing offense.

Ohio State and Clemson’s are going around sucker Punching cripple kids.either could be the best team in the country and either could just be overrated.

There is just no barameter.

Ohio States best two games will be Wisconsin and Penn State and they both may just suck.

UGA and LSU each have more wins against top 15 teams than this group combined....

3 Utah 58.3
4 Oklahoma 59.6
5 Oregon 60.6
6 Ohio State 61.4
7 Clemson 67.7
8 Alabama 72.9

Comparing records vs P5 opponents with winning records.

AP Team >.500 P5
1 LSU 4
2 Ohio St 2
3 Clemson 4
4 Georgia 3
5 Alabama 1
6 Oregon 2
7 Utah 1
8 Oklahoma 3

I think if it comes down to LSU vs Ohio State, we win handily.

Which is bullshite.

There should be steep penalties for teams trying to get into the playoff picture if they don't have a respectable SOS.

You don't have a top 30 SOS but you're undefeated? That should count as a loss. You don't have a top 60 SOS but you're undefeated? That's two losses.

It's BS that teams get penalized for playing tough schedules and get a loss, but others schedule cupcakes and waltz their way to December undefeated.

The CFP committee says repeatedly SOS matters. Put a system in place that objectively shows us that.

So is this schedule:

#1
#2
#3
#121
#122
#123

with an average opponent ranking of 62

equal to this schedule:
#59
#60
#61
#63
#64
#65

with an average ranking of 62?

Point is, averages are not a good way to calculate SOS (or strength of wins or whatever).

That's a good point.

Maybe college football needs to establish a system like college hoops has with a quadrant rating system.

Whatever they decide, they need to select an objective rating system and apply it to all teams.

You wanna schedule Western Tennessee Regional Community College? Fine, but you're only hurting your playoff chances.
