2013 gets lost in the shuffle of all the ground and pound Miles offenses, but that team was really good on offense. 7th in YPP, 4th in QB Rating, etc.

OFFENSE
National Rank : Offensive YPP
2013 : 7th
2019 : 5th

National Rank : QB Rating
2013 : 4th
2019 : 4th

National Rank : Rush YPA
2013 : 28th
2019 : 82nd

DEFENSE
National Rank : Defensive YPP
2013 : 27th
2019 : 31st

National Rank : QB Rating Against
2013 : 28th
2019 : 48th

National Rank : Rush YPA Against
2013 : 45th
2019 : 24th

Obviously this year is only through 4 games while 2019 is after an entire SEC schedule, but it seems like a semi-close comparison.

2013 LSU offense was loaded - La'el Collins, Trai Turner, Mettenberger, Jeremy Hill, Jarvis Landry, OBJ

main difference: the 2019 team will turn Saban into a pillow biter

This offense is better than 2013, mainly because of the play calling and scheme, and I think this defense is more talented than 2013.

Very similar though I trust these coaches calling plays more than Les and Cam. Les insisted on having Mett run the damn short side option once a game. Zach would get lit up every time

Yep - kind of my thinking as well. Plus I suspect the 2019 defense has a much higher ceiling than 2013 did.

I think we had 7 defensive players drafted before the 2013 season plus a couple other contributors who graduated. Last gasps of the good Chavis. Should be much better this year on that front.

Offense seems to be better as well.

it's kind of insane what Brady has done to this team.

As of right now there are more than one parallel you can draw between them. 2013 had some serious offensive weapons. The scheme held them back, as you could see against stiffer competition. The defense was a bit lacking, just as you see to start this year. The main difference there is the talent level this year, we have a much higher ceiling on defense. We’re short a few starters right now, and I do expect the defense to perform significantly better as the season goes on and we get healthy.

It’s a new offensive scheme. I expect there to be a few hiccups as we encounter better and better defenses, but I would say this year’s team is in a tier above the 2013 team.

That 2013 team was frustrating, same as this year. We find an offense and the defense pulls an Aggy and goes on Strike.

I think that despite what the stats say, this years' defense is far better than 2013. Also, although less talented, I think that this years' offensive scheme makes it as effective as 2013's offense.

If JC Copeland doesn't fumble at the goal line that 2013 Bama game has an entire different outlook.

Very different. 2013 was still two man routes out of I formation with the main focus being the running game.

2019’s 5th receiver probably has more catches than 2013’s 3rd receiver already

I think this year is better simply because the offensive playbooks in college football have only progressed since 2013 and LSU has a revamped offense built for the times.

And no offense to Mettenberger, but Burrow is better imho

That said, as good as LSU's receivers are currently, which I saw first hand dominate in Austin, idk if LSU may ever have a receiver tandem as lethal as obj and landry. If those guys were in the system implemented now... holy shite.

I'll never forget us losing that Ole Miss game bc Mett threw the same pick on the same pattern 3 times in the same game.

SoG, I think deep down we all have at least just a little fear that this team is the same as that one. Our offense looks incredible but has yet to face a stout d-line. Our defense has been banged up, but underwhelming in some fundamental things that are usually strengths of LSU teams. There is a stat out there that if an opponent picks up a single first down against LSU, they score points on that drive 70% of the time. We have been a bit feast or famine on defense. They have forced a TON of 3 n outs. But also have missed a ton of tackles. Have also dropped at least 3 easy interceptions. Clean that up by 50% (which is realistic), establish a marginally better pressure up front, and we are back to a top10-15 defense again.

If you ask an LSU fan, they'll tell you that this current crop of WRs is better than Landry and ODB Jr

2013 vs 2019

2019 QB >>>>>> 2013 QB

Met was good, but Burrow is special

2013 OL slightly over 2019 OL

The 19 line still needs to prove itself imo, but the potential is there to be pretty good and surpass 13

WR I’d say are equal

I do believe that. While OBJ and Landry are better than our top 2 (however you want to rank them, I can hardly separate JJ, Chase, Marshall), whoever you put as our number 3 is a huge upgrade over 2013 to make up for the difference

DB, LB, DL - 2019 is better than 2013 at every level (when healthy). DB and LB are worlds apart from 19 to 13. DL is the closest but I’d still take 2019. The 2013 DL was green.

Well I just went from 6 to 11 imagining that

Are our 1 and 2 better than those two? No. But our #3 was Terrace Marshall before injury who is arguably as talented as any other traditional/prototypical receiver in the country. Their backups were all big time recruits, and I haven’t even touched on the freshman.

The entire group of receivers in 2019 is better than 2013, but I’ve never seen college wide outs better than those two. They were/are insanely gifted
