the last few years we have heard how Aranda was the best, now transitioning from him to Pelini, what are your thoughts?

Should be a fun switch. Dave was a great architect. Pelini is wants O wants the pin your ears back 4 down and attack. But I am patiently waiting for Bo's first sideline outrage

Just out of these two ... I like Aranda the best. So far. We'll see what Pelini can do (I know, it's his second time here but this is still a new incarnation). He was kind of a shite-show at Nebraska. We'll see.

I’m thankful for a Aranda but I loved our defense under Bo during the 2005-2007 years. We shall see how they perform this season.

Aranda is a good coach, but his defenses were supposedly very complex. I just prefer a more attacking style of defense like Pelini. His defense is supposed to be a little more simple and just allows the players to make plays and we have some dudes on the defensive side of the ball.

I trust Coach O:

"I will say this, we are so much better on defense right now than any part of the season last year..."
-Ed Orgeron

The LSU defense was pretty good last year.

Tbh I didn't even know he replaced Dave until a few weeks ago. I knew he was out the door, but was surprised to learn it was BP. Sideline outrage is always great, for everyone.

Yeah I still think back to the bowl game against ND. I was like, wtf is up with this defense.

I'm excited. I think Arranda was great and wish him the best. I feel he carried over that conservative approach from the Les Miles days a little too much. We did not need to be that conservative with the defensive monsters we had on roster and new offensive team mindset, but hey they guy won a natty so what do I know. Pelini will switch back to the 4-3 defense and bring a much more aggressive style. We are starting to get stronger DL recruits and LSU will have a completely new look in a couple of years. Overall, ya can't a guy like Arranda forever and i think it was time to leave for parties. We are lucky to have Pelini fill the position, I think we will force a lot more turnovers.

I have no problem w/ either of them. Both very good coaches but w/ different styles.

It's like comparing apples to oranges stylistically.

Bottom line is LSU had some great defenses under Aranda and we had some great defenses under Pelini. LSU's defense is in fine hands and will continue to be great.

Aranda was very good DC but perhaps not as elite as some people made him out to be.

From what O has said Pelini is the better fit. I also think a 4 man front is the better scheme.

Pelini was good at LSU before. He'll be good at LSU again.

How has John Chavis been?

If you really dive into it, Pelini was great at Nebraska (as good as Nebraska can be in this era). Almost beat a national title Longhorns team purely on defense in the BTCG. 9 and 10 win seasons every year for 7 years. He struggled with recruiting and offense, and he won't need to to deal with those things in this new role.
