LSU Athletics is no longer going to be a crutch for LSU Academics; they have to get their own budget balanced and not rely on outside sources

Interesting timing on that - sounds like Woodward basically telling the University to get their house in order and that TAF isn't going to be their rainy day fund anymore.

That's my takeaway, too. The controversy between academics and athletics presented a grand opportunity to recoup much-needed money under the guise of swinging a big dick.

Lsu’s donation to academics was one of the few things they did better than most. I guess Woodward sees Lsu a a sport factory and not an institution of higher learning.

That's exactly it, Alleva was the one with the initiative to give the university a ton of TAF money.

Alleva pledged something like $37 million to the university from 2012-17 and they ended up giving them $50 million. Woodward says they aren't bailing them out any more like that, surely will still give them some money, but it wont be to the tune of $8M+ a year. Clearly with all the extra money TAF was giving the university they werent putting it to good use and cant make a budget for themselves.

This is forcing their hand to finally get their shite figured out and dont have bailout money any more...probably finally means a reigme change at the top with F King which is much needed. If you're having some financial issues with athletics pouring money into you, then you need to get your shite figured out, and do it without having all this extra money constantly fed to you while athletics takes the hit on it on the end.

Athletics was separated from the university for a reason and that reason is not to financially support the university forever with crutches.

Instead of the Athletic Dept saying "You get X amount of dollars each year" now it will be the school asking "Can we have X amount to fix XYZ?"

I'm guessing LSU academics has a billion-dollar budget. Ten million is hardly a piss in the Pacifc.

However, $10 million for the LSU athletics budget of around $150 million is quite substantial.

I see this as a positive for LSU.

Good for them.

It means "thoughts and prayers." The LSU athletic department appears to be going through some tough times financially, and that can be very stressful, so I thought it would a show of good will for all of us on the rant to send our thought and prayers toward our friends in the LSU athletics department.

I'm not taking any side here, but does Woodward have the authority to make that statement? He works for somebody, I assume

More like for the academic side but we know what you’re doing in this thread. Have at it.

I didn't realize the athletic department and the university were two separate entities. If that's the case, they need to be removed from college athletics and placed into the xfl. They already have the uniforms for it.
