They didn't want to let issues stir under the surface and come up when it was too late. LSU players saw that happen last year, when they lost at home to Troy, fell to 3-2 and held a players-only meeting to try and turn the season around.

So this time, after a two-week fall camp stretch of three new suspensions and two quarterback transfers, the LSU leaders wanted to be proactive.

LSU coach Ed Orgeron met with the leaders of the team. The players had things to get off their chest to the staff. The staff had things they wanted to get through to the team.

They agreed for that leadership committee -- about 12 to 15 guys, per safety John Battle -- to hold a players-only meeting and talk through some issues with the team.

"I think there were some questions about our team and if we were gonna separate or come together," linebacker Jacob Phillips said.

It's hard to pin down what exactly sparked the meeting. Some players said it had to do with the transfers of quarterbacks Justin McMillan and Lowell Narcisse. Some said that had nothing to do with it. The answer probably lays somewhere in the combination of the transfers, the off-the-field issues and the overall dynamics of the team.

There’s a growing theory among the LSU fan base that 2018 will either be a great season or a distaster - in either case we win. A great season unites the fan base behind O, a disaster and we clean house.

The worst thing that could happen is a 7 or 8 win season where you’ve clearly fallen behind your rivals but you can’t fire anyone.

This is probably what you'll get.

I think this is exactly what will happen. LSU will finish 7-5 or 8-4. The collapse many LSU fans are predicting won't occur until 2020 or 2021.

Players want Tua to play. Not quite the same as your situation.

Quite the double standard you got there

LSU players only meeting = bad news
Alabama players meeting = no big deal

I can't believe the swamp kittens didn't see this shite coming a mile away under Orgeron. He's returning LSU to their natural place on the pecking order, battling for 4th place in the SEC West with Ole Miss and Arkansas.

Look at the recent history of the programs and who the current coach of each is.

Carry on.

Dude just take the L on this thread and move on

You made a thread on the notion that players only meetings early in the season are a sign of a team falling apart

A poster then shows you a link of Bama having a players only meeting already

You got your arse whipped son, take it like a man, wipe the blood off, and run on home
