No one cares about the regular season champions. Who goes to the NCAA tournament? The tournament champion or the regular season champion?

Um both? You're seriously saying the conference tournament winner is more important than the conference champion? A single tournament win is more important than an entire season accomplishment?

No, this is college basketball reality. Ask any coach at the beginning of the year whether he would prefer to win the regular season or the conference tourney and see how many say the regular season. Basketball is who is left standing at the end, always has been and always will be.
UVA/UNC would trade theirs this year in a heartbeat for the tournament banner.
