His buyout will be $4MM this time 2 years from now, which is lower than it is currently. His raise was $500k/year, making his yearly salary $4MM, still in the bottom half of the SEC. His $10MM buyout is also still middle of the road in the conference. Not much of a story IMO. LSU actually negotiated a good salary extension for once

what does that have to do with anything? They gave him a 2 year extension for recruiting purposes (so he has 4 years left on his contract) and a good faith raise that is pretty minimal.

It would be basically unrealistic for him to get fired before the end of the 2020 season regardless, and his buyout will be lower then than it is now. I think it's pretty damn fair to all parties. Orgeron gets a thank you for a NY6 win and top 10 finish by giving him an average SEC salary, and LSU has an easy out if he falls on his face. The buyout goes down to $7.5MM after this season and then down $250k/month thereafter.
