Standardized test scores is a much better gauge of admissions competitiveness. UGA has an average SAT score of 1400, above UF and well above Bama.

From the article you linked.

SAT scores of incoming students have reached a record level, as well, with an average of 1365 for the Class of 2022 compared to 1344 last year.

You're so disillusioned that you forgot that Texas A&M is an Ag school too...

Why do I know so many kids who couldn't get into UGA but could easily get into Bama and AUburn?

Acceptance rate is not a reflection of those who get in. it is more those who get rejected. That is what needs to be looked at.

Take the Hope Scholarship away and see what happens. There is always a high demand for freebees.

Just for comparison, the acceptance rates for 3 Southern State ACC schools are:

Georgia Tech: 22.1%

UNC: 21.9%

UVA: 27% (this one surprises me, thought it would be lower)

He probably combs the local high schools for dates, under the guise of polling them about college acceptance.

The Hope Scholarship and Zell Miller Grant "freebies" are not free because the students have to earn them with highschool grades and scores and if deferred, charity work and other resume items. UGA's acceptance criteria is now very high because kids who may not have been able to afford UGA in the past can now apply and attend using these. It is an awesome thing. If I recall correctly, the Valedictorian and Salutatorian from each Georgia public school is automatically accepted if they apply to ensure kids from smaller schools who don't have the AP classes or resources can still make it in. These kids earn it.

Isn’t miss state the worst academically rated of any power 5 conference school? Or did West Virginia take that title from y’all?

UGAs has actually been about 48% the past couple of years. Dropped below 50% for the first time ever last year

Why? Just because our state funds higher education doesn’t invalidate the reality that UGA is harder to get into than Auburn

And just because a school is harder to get into to doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a better school.

Georgia has a population of 11 million with 300K HS graduates each year and UGA takes in about 10K per year. With the Hope Scholarship, there is a good chance the flagship University can attract the better students if they offer free tuition. It is not about the better education system as much is it about the math.
