The day is September 16, 2000, SidewalkTiger is a few days short of turning 7 years old.

The defending SEC champion, the mighty Alabama Crimson Tide, heads to Birmingham to take on lowly Southern Miss at Legion Field.

Despite this being penciled in as an easy victory by many Bammers and despite Alabama outgaining the underdog Golden Eagles by 217 yards to 210, Southern Miss was able to defeat the strong Crimson Tide team by a final score of 21-0.

The three touchdown victory over Alabama would notch Southern Miss' sixth victory in the series between the two schools.

SMTTT!

Alabama went 3-8 that season and went 3-5 in the SEC

They lost to USM 21-0 and beat Ole Miss 45-7.

Dayum.

Tell me what this says about Ole Miss, George.

I feel like it's all bad things.

Defending SEC champs, no less.

Brilliant.

For a minute there, I thought you meant the 1960 Sugar Bowl.

Ole Miss went a combined 1-7 against Mike DuBose and Mike Shula.

Hugh Freeze deserves a statue.

Just think, you were able to win a national title only 9 years after this loss.

Says a lot about how tGOAT Nick Saban can rescue a downtrodden program.

Another 21-0 beat down…

Regular season LSU pulls out a narrow hard fought win against the no. 1 team in the polls. Weeks later a re-match in the Sugar Bowl, the other team destroyed LSU 21-0.

Yep… I’m talking about Ole Miss in 1959, the year of the famous Billy Cannon Halloween run.

Turns out our SEC winning head coach really wasn’t very good and spent more time doing his side piece than his job.

That sound familiar in any way?

ETA - upvoted you for originality.

Opened the season ranked #3. Defending SEC champs.

Lost at the Rose Bowl in the season opener by 11 points. Whoa. Is this another decline sign?

Only 1 offensive TD that game if I’m remembering correctly. USM scored on a pick 6 and a muffed punt or kickoff.

He already proved that after winning one at LSU, whose previous title was like 50 years before
