It really sucks with all these legendary announcers getting older and passing the torch.

John Ward-UT
Larry Munson-UGA
Jim Hawthorne-LSU

others I'm missing?

Prayers for his family and all of the Vols fans.

I'm 42 and the worst part of aging, is all of the people you grew up respecting and idolizing start to fade and pass away.

yeah i knew i was forgetting somebody.

Cristil had such a distinct voice as well, a legend too. I remember watching the tv shows on SportsSouth

I can't imagine listening to MS State is the same now, without Hawthorne, it's just not the same listening to LSU.

Eli gold will never b looked at like we did john Forney. This will b his 30th season and I still call him the new guy.

Fyffe
Munson
But especially Munson and ward. They were around before these stadiums enclosed the end zones. Not many guys around now that can tell u about calling games with the likes of Herschel, bo and the bear.

I can't imagine Alabama Radio without Eli Gold.

quote:

Gold said Hawthorne and legendary Tennessee broadcaster John Ward were two of the SEC broadcasters he first got to know when he began calling Alabama games in 1988. “Jim and I have been friends for a long time,” he said. “I love listening to him. You’ll be coming back from a game, and I’d catch him and Doug (Moreau, LSU color analyst).”
