I don’t get why Aggies want to get rid of him. He has taken them to two sweet sixteens in the last 4 years. They had only gone to 4 in their entire history before that. It’s not like they are world beaters...what am I missing here?

They, like Texas basketball and Rick Barnes, think they deserve better.
Aggy has never been to the Elite 8 and believes they should be elite

Hate to tell you, but y’all can’t do any better. Coach Kennedy has been a good coach for y’all. Basketball is just not that big in Texas. Football and baseball are more popular.

It ain't just basketball

The following is probably TLDR for most on this board, but here goes:
This really a pretty silly argument.
There's obviously a first time or everything and if you're going to play the games you might as well try to win.
Coach Kennedy has been fighting an uphill battle recruiting since he got to A&M. He showed up and before his first season was diagnosed with Parkinson's. While he's been admired for his tenacity, some use this condition against him with recruits. They suggest that he won't be able to coach much longer.
The 2 Sweet Sixteen's were the result of one really good recruiting class that was kinda brought and held together by one recruit. Avery Johnson, Jr.
Since then Kennedy's really struggled getting a balance of guards and big men.
For those that think Texas is not a basketball state, check a few top 25 rosters. Texas produces a lot of basketball talent. They typically go to basketball powerhouses. Get the right coach at the right time ....who knows what could happen.

That sums up Aggy in all sports.

Y’all have one of the biggest states in the country, so of course there will be players. The sport is just not a premium sport there like football and baseball. Besides a few decent years here and there, Texas, Baylor, Tech, and A&M are mediocre programs without great tradition.

You don’t need tradition to get better. Tech made a great hire and they’re been very competitive. UH did the same. A&M made the dance 6 or 7 years in a row when they made 2 good hires. Coaching matters. A&M is daily if they’re not trying to hire someone to take them to the dance regularly then let the chips fall where they may.

Texas basketball and Rick Barnes,
You should go back and take a look at Barnes' time at Texas. Had he not had so many leave early there was a three or four year period when Texas would have a national power.
Imagine a line up of LaMarcus Alridge, Kevin Durant, Daniel Gibson, PJ Tucker, and TJ Ford.

Most decent schools have that problem. It was a shock to no one the KD was 1 and done. Rick was a good coach at tu, but he feel short of being great often with loaded teams.

Kennedy still has yet to win a conference game at home this year.
3 more home losses and he has the most home losses in a season ever for A&M.

Rick Barnes is Coach January but never Coach March.
His teams peak way too early.
Great coaches will use the regular season to find what works.
Tennessee will find this out.
What happened last year is the norm.
