Kentucky was 3 scores away from a potential playoff berth

Only losses UK took in 2021 were as follows:
-UGA 13-30 (17 point margin)
-MSU 17-31 (14 point margin)
-Vols 42-45 (3 point margin)
If UK topples State and UT (which I believe they should have) then they would have been one of only 6 teams to have 1 loss or less. I can’t believe the Cats were only 3 scores away from the playoffs…and they’re returning a lot this year I believe.

Because they weren't.

You know TD posts don't count as community service hours right?

They play in the East. This is the why.

It was already bad enough putting Cincinnati in. Let’s not destroy the ratings and the sport by putting Kentucky in too.

Yes their schedule was weak, however, if they would have beaten those two teams their only loss would be a respectable one to the #1 team.
They could have pulled it off.
They could have pulled it off.

They were 6-2 and ranked in the top 20 and were not even favored at home against a 4-4 Tennessee team. Why do you believe they should have won that game?

Stoops has done a hell of a job there. They are a really good team but they are not a playoff team.

They also only beat UF by 7, South Carolina by 6, and Chattanooga by 5.
Sure, they were 3 scores from a playoff spot. They were also only three scores away from going 6-6.
You can't just ignore the inverse.
As the old adage goes, you are what you're record says you are.

So "if" they had won a game against State in which they were never within 1 score after early in the 3rd quarter and were outgained by 225 yards?
Their wins would have been....
- 8-4 Mississippi State (which in reality they were beaten soundly by)
- 6-6 Tennessee
- 6-6 Missouri
- 6-6 Louisville
- 6-6 LSU
- 6-6 South Carolina
They would have played 1 ranked team and lost by 17.
Yea, that team isn't going to the playoffs.

How do you get "3 scores away" from that?
State lost 3 games by a total of 8 points (from 5 missed FGs and a gift TD from a bad call for which the SEC apologized).
Another loss by only 10 points in which State dropped 4 TD passes (3 on the same possession) and missed 2 FGs.
State was a LOT closer to 11-1 and the playoff than UK. Probably closer than several other SEC teams.

They also only beat Mizzou by a touchdown. So they were also 4 scores away from being 4th/5th in East.
Lets pump the brakes on this thread.

State beat the shite out of Kentucky. That score was closer than the game was. Kentucky had the ball for like 2 minutes in the entire second half.

Yep. Just don't lose 2 games you shouldn't lose.

Or two kickers, anyway. We had a good one who got hurt early on.

I wish I could get behind this but I can’t. This is a big stretch. The next step for us would be a NY6 bowl game. Had opportunities for that this year but didn’t work out. Hoping we can on year 2 under Levis

Not to worry. If UK hadn’t collapsed after losing to UGA and gone 11-1, we would still have only been ranked 8th or 9th at best. People just don’t associate football with UK.

17+14+3=34. 35 = 5 scores.
Math is hard.
