To be fair, Vols have been sad since the Phat Man left

Worse than Eddie Gran if that is possible. Eddie never had this much talent, but his line could block.

I don't think thats true. He's said several times this year he isn't making calls on offense. I think after the QB-less Lynn Bowden year and the covid year he knew he had open it up more and to let go. He went out and got Cohen from the Rams and let him take control.
I was going to say he let both Coen and Brown open it up (as much as possible with personnel) when they were OC.
I think you bring Gran back in as RB coach though. He was a shite OC but our backs were well recruited and progressed under him (and at his previous stops).

But you cared enough to come on here and be a horses arse.

Scang had to realize he needed to simplify the offense and go with quicker developing plays. He also needed more play action to freeze the linebackers but insisted on the long drawn out out BS. But what got him fired was red zone offense.
From Mike's link:
In 2021 Kentucky ranked No. 8 in the red zone, scoring touchdown on 72.2% of its appearances. Despite the return of Will Levis and Chris Rodriguez, this year the Wildcats rank 103rd, turning only 53.2% of their red zone appearances into touchdowns. It’s why Kentucky scored 10 fewer points per game (22.1) than a year ago. If the Wildcats scored 25 points in every game, their only loss would be to Tennessee. Kentucky ranked 105th in scoring offense, 107th in total offense, 109th in rushing offense and 88th in passing offense.

He loves Mike but just can not let his emotions come to the surface to tell him so.

Coen definitely was given the keys and it worked.
Gran might be a good fit as RB coach.

Are the salaries for lower tier NFL secondary coaches (especially adjusted for cost of living) that much greater than most P5 football schools?

After firing the RB coach, I thought maybe Scangarello was possibly safe.
We need a quick good hire, and a QB and Oline. Anyone have any to share?

May help if they watched us this season.

and Oline.
They will be 1 year older next year and hopefully healthy.
Time would seem to heal this part of the equation.
Now special teams, there is I want to see some major improvement.

We paid Scang 900K for this season... should be sending him the bill for the QB's Shoulder surgery.

So how does this translate to the NFL?
Stoops is set (job security)
Lexington is probably cheaper to live than most NFL cities
Coaching in the SEC is good exposure

Didn't see much of UK outside of the Ole Miss game but the OL wasn't great and Levis just didn't seem to make plays downfield, probably because the OL sucked. Hard to run any system, especially a complicated one, if you can't block.
Posted on 11/29/22 at 2:19 pm to Quicksilver
That's very true but we had too much firepower for us to finish last or next to last in every offensive category, OL or no OL issues. Scang just didn't get it done.

Not sure how much of the struggle was Scangs fault this year with the terrible offensive line play but optimistic we can bring Brown home now.
Watch the line when they just line up and man block. The problem is NOT the offensive line. They've been a convenient scapegoat. I get tired of saying it ... but I'll say it again ...
Problem #1 - Scangerello and his philosophy. Multiple offensive line blocking schemes that make the kids tentative. Declared Day One that he didn't like the idea of Levis running the football. And watch the games ... he absolutely does not challenge the middle third of the field, via the pass, between five and fifteen yards.
Problem #2 - Will Levis. He stopped running, which was about 40% of his effectiveness last year. He fell in love with his arm, and a coach telling him to win with his arm.
Watch the South Carolina game. This line moved the ball, off their own one, against a nine man box ... by just playing traditional man on man blocking.

Eddie Gran has always been a good RB coach. He was great in that spot at Auburn. Could not agree with you more.
