The question again will be his recruiting. Some LSU fans have taken that to mean that it's easier to recruit at Notre Dame than LSU. That's not what I'm saying.

Have a few Notre Dame friends who feel he's not that great it, but his staff was. Especially the guy they just hired to be their head coach and the OC who is staying.

Les and Ed may not have been great head coaches, but their personalities were good for recruiting. I think the thought is if he can recruit well at ND, he'll recruit well at LSU. Notre Dame is probably the biggest national brand in football just on name alone. I know some will say Bama or OSU, and I can see why. But if their coaches leave, that dies a little. Notre Dame will get kids from anywhere because they have fans everywhere.

I'll put it like this:

A good/great recruiter can recruit better at LSU than Notre Dame.

An average recruiter may not be able to. And if he only recruits the way he did at Notre Dame, that won't be enough.

I do think his floor overall is high, though. Will he have them on the same level as Bama? I don't know. But he probably will handle everyone else in the West most years.

He rarely loses to teams that aren't top ten types. I know his record vs. those teams isn't good, but he takes care of the other business.

That's why Ed is gone. That's why Dan is gone. If they could've beaten who they should and lost the toss ups or dog games, they'd still have their jobs.

This. LSU fans are ok with 10-2 or better seasons annually with CFP participation every couple/3 years, unlike Bama fans. The floor is high and the ceiling is unknown. That’s a great hire in my book and as close of a guarantee as any team not named Bama can get.
