From a Bama fan’s perspective, I’m hoping we get in with either a Oklahoma or a Wisconsin loss on Saturday. And I think Bama is deserving of a top 4 spot if they does happen.
BUT, say the only “upset” on Saturday is Ohio State over Wisconsin. If the playoff committee happens to choose the Buckeyes over Bama, I have no complaints and don’t all of a sudden want an expansion of playoffs. We did lose the ability to control our own destiny so can’t complain too much.
College Football championships, whether it’s the BCS, CFP, or whatever, always have a little weirdness to them, and aren’t perfect. But I think they’ve done about as good of a job possible of keeping the regular season charm of college football while pitting the top teams against each other.

Here's the difference.
In only one instance has a "nondeserving team" proven the critics wrong.
2001 - Nebraska did not deserve to go to the BCS title game. Blown out by Miami.
2003 - Oklahoma did not deserve to go to the BCS title game. Lost to LSU.
2011 - Alabama did not deserve to go to the BCS title game, won 21-0.
2016 - Ohio State did not deserve to go to the playoffs. Lost 31-0.

Agreed. 4 is enough. More than that and you will have 3 loss teams arguing that they should be included. That starts to dilute the regular season too much. The balance is correct now. You pretty much can't afford more than 1 loss, MAYBE 2 in certain circumstance (like AU who lost early and had the chance for several huge wins late).

About the only expansion I would ever be cool with is Gary Danielson’s once proposed 6 Team Playoff. Where you take the top 2 ranked conference champions among the 6 and give them byes. This would add some inherent value to conference championship games which people are complaining about currently.

We essentially have a 6-9 team playoff with the match ups in the conference championships. Clemson Miami is a quarterfinal. Auburn UGA is a quarterfinal. Even Big10 game and B12 is likely a quarterfinal. Then there is Bama trolling on the couch like OSU last year hoping to get in the back door.

if FCS and division 2 can have like 20 plus teams in the playoffs im pretty sure it shouldnt be a problem expanding FBS to 6 or 8

4 is fine. The playoff needs to be difficult to make to make the regular season meaningful.
Every loss needs to be potentially eliminating and right now it is.

16 at least but 24 is perfect. It will go there eventually.
