LSU kids citing the Gettysburg Address in class:

11 Years and 5 Bama national championships ago...

quote:

2011 - Bama* - Didn't win their Division, and split the record with NC opponent at 1-1. Lost to NC opponent on their home field, and has a record that has one less win than their NC opponent at 12-1 vs 13-1. Because their NC opponent earned the right to go play for the SEC Title while Bama had to watch on their tvs.

No Rubber match was ever offered.

Maybe because unlike Georgia, bama didn’t win their division or play in the conference championship in 2011.

But excluding that, they’re exactly the same thing! Good job champ

Sounds like semantics to me. Last year Georgia got beat in a quasi-home game by 17 and got a rematch. Deservedly so they were absolutely one of the best 4 teams in the country at the end of the regular season. Just like Alabama was one of the best 2 teams in the country in 2011

Oh,no doubt. I just hate it for our team that the final score got so out of hand. We had a great team but all anyone who is not an LSU fan remembers about that team is '21-0.'

I don't remember any other two loss team in the BCS CG. Could be my memory. Which other two loss played in the BCS CG?

Change Bama for Georgia and division for conference and we have last years scenario. Why no * next to UGA?

He did that while at ND, unless you think he’s going to do it again.

My understanding is that a team that “isn’t the best team in its own conference cannot be the best team in the country.” I fail to see how adding two teams to the playoffs changes that absolute concept
UGA was considered the best team in the conference until we changed our defensive philosophy in the SECCG and lost. Even so, we got a rematch and beat the SEC champs for a national title.

We didn’t get a piece of hardware, but we beat every team we played, including the conference champs. I think that’s a little different than the other scenario that was mentioned.

Good. Then you agree Bama playing LSU was the right call then, right? Otherwise that would make you a hypocrite, and surely you're not a hypocrite.

This is kind of silly.

The reality is that it's like basketball.

You have the team who wins the regular season (in this case, UGA being the only undefeated team in conference play wins that)

Then you have the team that wins the conference tournament (in this case that would be Bama winning the SECCG... granted only a 2 team tournament but it is post-regular season).

Then you have the team winning the NCAA tournament (in this case UGA).

It's rare in basketball for the NCAA tournament champion to also have won both their conference tournament and their conference regular season title.

It’s so depressing seeing how far we’ve fallen. The most wins in SEC history in a 4 year span, 2 national titles, and a Sugar Bowl and we’ve literally accomplished nothing in the last 14 seasons since.
