Report: Mississippi State hires former South Alabama coach Joey Jones as special teams coordinator

Mississippi State has reportedly added a former head coach to its staff.

According to Steve Robertson of Scout.com, the Bulldogs have hired former South Alabama coach Joey Jones to serve as special teams coordinator. Jones was the coach at South Alabama from 2008-17.

Over his nine seasons leading the Jaguars, Jones went 52-50, which included going 18-29 in Sun Belt Conference play after the school joined the conference in 2012.

I do too. He's already familiar with our program.

Really good hire. Jones is well connected in the south and is overall a decent coach.

Not really a big deal
One Bowl was played in January 2014 and the other in December 2014.
Same year but in two different seasons.

You beat me to it. But it would make more sense if it was Merlin.

Joey Jones

I remember hearing during his playing days at Alabama that he ran a 4.28 40. Could anybody confirm or deny?

I know that in the '82 game he blew right past James Britt.

I'm still impressed he managed to play in two bowl games in the same year. That doesn't happen all that often I wouldn't think.

No idea, but his sons were fast as hell too, so I wouldn't be surprised.

He is a good coach. Jimbo gave him some shite advice telling him to go to USA. Good to see him get something at a real program. He has always been a good offensive coach.

Does anybody know if the kicker who hit the upright to lose the game still at Mississippi State?

I can't imagine how awkward it would be for that guy.

I like it. Joey was one of my all time favorite Alabama players. I was living in Mobile (his home town) when he was a player so all of my co-workers followed him closely.
