Yeah I know who cares about punters, but damn, but watching old games I had forgotten just how awesome this guy was: he was arguably Bama's MVP in some games where Hurts struggled.
73 yard punt vs OSU
Best SEC punter ever?
Others that come to mind: Braden Mann, Chad Kessler, Brad Wing, Kyle Christy, Gordon Ely-Kelso

That he was skipped over for the Ray Guy award 3 times was total bullshite.
It's not just his ridiculous range either, he was also money when it came to placing the ball where it needed to be.

You simply cannot have a discussion about SEC punting greats without mentioning the Colquitt brothers, whose father and uncle also punted at VOLS and went onto NFL careers

His punting kept Alabama in the game in the second half against Ohio State. He pinned the Buckeyes deep again and again.

Donnie Jones might be only Punter to end it with natty

Yeah I'm watching that game now. The score didn't really reflect OSU's domination, mainly bc Scott had 385 yards punting!

Interesting choice but incredibly memorable name. Drew Butler is our Ray Guy award winner, son of Kevin Butler

I’m still pissed the Packers burnt a fifth round pick on a punter who struggles in cold weather

He absolutely should have won it as a freshman, his numbers absolutely CRUSHED the other competition that year, it wasn't even close, and they didn't give it to him because they didn't want to give it to a freshman over seniors.
Lotta politics in those awards, the underclassman bias used to be strong with the Heisman too.

Him and Daniel Carlson not winning the kicking awards is such a farce.

Downright criminal, honestly.

Without a doubt, the way he could flip field position and drop a ball inside the 10 was uncanny.

Yeah I mainly remember his name and him killing us field position-wise in the 2005 SEC CG

Yes he was a "punter" ....but special from his first punt. Against WV in ATL... WVU just scored to tie at 10s Bama then goes 3 and out...ball on the Bama 30...JK punts...WVU starts their possession on the 6 yd line

He was great. But Todd sauerbrun was the best college punter I’ve ever seen

Lot of guys had career days for Georgia in that game. Tim Jennings, Demario Minter, Sean Bailey. Just one of those cases where LSU’s RB was hurt and Georgia was out for blood; perfect storm.

Remember discussing him with SOG in a thread a few weeks ago. IMO, best punter in the NCAA during his tenure, an absolute weapon, which is a strange thing to say about a punter.
That he got passed over for the Guy award is a travesty.
