Pretty sure we have been running a 3 man oline. Don’t think 5 could block this bad.

for all the crap A&M coaching is getting, all trolling aside.....3 men front dropping 8 has given Leach problems in a lot of games in the past. A&M players had shots at interceptions in the first half, the plan was actually solid.

They also looked better than other games offensively. Early good drive ends with a fumble and dropped a sure TD pass. That's not planning.. not shitting on the players those things happen.

They actually looked better prepared for this game than for Arkansas... just the breaks went completey the opposite way.

Durkin ran this same system last year at Ole Miss. It took about half of the season for the defense to really learn it but it has been very, very effective since. Ole Miss is still running it. Campbell at Iowa State popularized it.

Tuning in to our weekly press conferences huh? What else did you learn about your favorite program? I didn’t get a chance to listen yet so I’d appreciate cliff notes if you don’t mind.

Why are all A&M fans so lame?

Several of them are rather sensitive.

The biggest problem I have with the 3-man front is it doesn't seem to fit our personnel. If we have a bevy of LBs or an astounding nickel or hybrid defensive back it'd make slightly more sense.

That said, I think it was the right call against MSU.

The thing is though if you're going to drop 8 you damn sure better have guys who can cover because the QB is going to have all day and night to pick apart the defense.

Just like if you load, you better be able to explode to the QB.

And I don't think A&M has been super strong in the secondary

I think Matt House actually had the right blueprint for defending Leach. We did rush 3 and drop 8 some, but I think Leach has figured out how to run the ball too well if you run that the entire game. We mixed a ton of looks, and also overloaded one side of the line heavily in pash rush downs. It gave Rogers fits. You have to be conservative against them, but also carefully pick your times to blitz and disrupt their timing.

I’ve heard we’ve been running it so much because we lack a true edge rusher with quickness.

We have a ton of guys in the 6-3 to 6-6 and 270 to 300lbs range.
-Turner (a little heavier)
-Adeleye
-Nolen
-Stewart
-Lucas
-Overton
-Diggs (a little lighter)

Granted, I think it’s horse shite.

With regards to the 3 man front, I always thought he Durkin ran that Ole Miss out of necessity due to D line depth, but maybe it’s just his thing.

I do know that almost every stop he’s been at, his defenses took a step back the first year, then improved over the next couple years. Hopefully that’s the case at A&M. We all pretty much knew anyone would be a step down from Elko, he was one of the best.

Agree with most of what you said here besides the right call for miss st. At times sure you should use the three man front. A&M did do a better job for one half of getting pressure on the qb but made miss st look all world at rushing. A&M does not have the linebacker personal to be running a three man front. Not saying it never works but the sec is big boy football not big whatever football. 3 and 1 and 4th and inches has been a nightmare. Heck even 3 and 2 has been a nightmare. You are giving them a yard at the very least everytime. Not to mention it would be nice to keep those d lineman happy they will be studs in a year and two and really don't want them at another sec school. If the d was experienced up front and didn't miss assignments and could get off these blocks better we probably wouldn't even be talking about it. The fact that A&M can't get pressure or stop the run with three makes you wonder why durkin can not adjust a little during the game and mix it up .

More to do with depth we actually had in the secondary but it definitely helped at DL and LB where we had less depth. He did not run it in 2020 when we had the worst or 2nd worst defense in the SEC. He ran a mix of 4-3 and 4-2 in 2020.
