I'd be pissed if Denver drafts that quitter PoS. I wouldn't mind Waddle or Smith, though

At least y’all would have a 1st round WR that can catch

Denver has a slew of issues - not just at receiver. Adding a quitter to the locker room would not be ideal

At 180 pounds?

Time will tell.
Marvin Harrison, and back then dbs were allowed to hit you. Smith is lb for lb probably the strongest player in football. Have you ever seen him block?

Just for comparison
Hopkins 6’ 1” 214
Evans 6’ 5” 235
Jones 6’ 3” 220
Green 6’ 4” 210

The closest thing to Smith of the top WR’s would be Hill at 5’ 10” 185. He’s still 10 pounds heavier than Smith but runs a damned 4.29 40.

I think Smith will have a great career, but is there any other reason for these “experts” to have Chase higher in the draft than Smith other than his size?

Devonta, much like Marvin Harrison, will go as far as the QB he plays with at his NFL destination. Marvin was an average NFL receiver until he paired up with Manning...but then the magic happened. He started chewing up receptions, yards, and from 1999 through 2006 never had a season with less than 10 receiving TDs.

If he goes to a team that doesn’t have the QB and protection part of the passing attack figured out, he could struggle. I could see him bouncing around until he ends up with a good QB if that does happen. I don’t think he’s a flame out bust but he may have to to go elsewhere to find his 2nd act if his initial franchise is a mess.

I’d probably take Chase over Smith too as an NFL GM looking for WRs in the early picks. You kinda have to risk potential over reliability at the top of the first round and Chase isn’t particularly risky in that regard. He’s a very polished WR unlike Henry Ruggs. Devonta Smith is a mid to late 1st round pick who could fall to the early 2nd if his pro day + combine are dicy. I wouldn’t be surprised if Waddle does what Ruggs did to Juedy (who was the more polished WR out of Alabama last year).

The only reason he won the heisman was because that guy got hurt. waddle really only played in four whole games and he still finished the season as bama's THIRD leading receiver.

Let's just wait for the draft to see ....they'll ALL be in good shape financially.

I mean I think those rankings are accurate.

I really like Waddle.

I wonder if Waddle were healthy if he wins the Heisman or Mac Jones just ends up being the default “damn that offense was good” pick. I hate it came at the expense of Waddle’s health but I’m happy a player not in the offensive backfield won the Heisman for once.

There’s no way he wins the Heisman in a normal year as you pointed out.

It’s unfortunate his season will be tainted with “what if” questions because he really is a talent.

But does their algorithm account for lack of chest and quitter tendencies?

I think if Waddle had stayed healthy, then he and Smith split up yards much like Chase/Jefferson last year and Mac ends up winning. But, he didn't, and Smith deserved it

Wondering how no combine affects opt outs this year.

the no combine thing really is ridiculous. It won't hurt the players from major programs, but those guys from G5 and FCS schools that come out of nowhere are really going to be hurt by not having the exposure the others will have at pro days. I honestly don't even know why they felt it necessary t cancel the combine. They've been playing games, practicing, and traveling all year playing a contact sport. But now it's too dangerous to go do some no contact drills and talk with scouts/GMs/coaches?

Not at all. There’s more than enough tape and each guy will have a pro day at their respective schools.

Y’all really need to get used to this. For better or worse, opt outs will be the norm moving forward.

Congratulations, Alabama. You killed the only thing anyone respected you for.

what does Alabama have to do with opt-outs? If anything, they've gone against the grain and somehow convinced guys to return and play hard....and have guys who can barely walk like Waddle suiting up and trying to play. They're setting an example how it can pay off to return to school and not opt out

Other than being slightly larger Smith has him beat in every category

Hands
Vision
Speed
Route running
Field IQ

And also is not a quitter. Chase will have his hair dyed and partying with other men shortly

That remains to be seen. What they’ve done is they’ve created a scenario where only LSU and UGA really compete in the SEC. One or two losses and you’re out.

Why risk major injury for an orange bowl?
